Taken on Sunday November 30, 2014 at East Branch Sacandaga River. This past weekend I camped at the upper of these two campsites. It was a nice open field surrounded by white spruce. I hadn't ever been back to this campsite, but being sheltered from the wind with great views oft he stars, it is clearly now one of my favorite sites along NY 8. I have not explored the lower site but I confirmed it existed -- or at least the driveway exists to it -- when I was up that way this past weekend.
While it had changed by the time of the 1942 Aerial photo I've posted in the past, this 1892 topographic map quite clearly shows the original routing of the road.
Driving past Eleventh Mountain with lots of color along NY 8, outside of Johnsburg, not that far from Gore Mountain. The color is pretty good in this area, at least from the last weekend, but further down along the East Branch of the Sacandaga River, there is less color.
A New York State take on a popular map that has been found on the inter-webs lately.
