Sales of super-efficient electric heat pumps are rising, now overtaking sales of gas furnaces in the U.S. But what are heat pumps? And why do some call them a key climate solution? Here are the answers to your most burning heat pump questions.
I have to admit that was a pretty good walk yesterday, but it’s a new day, and I’m out walking this morning though with work — it won’t be a twenty mile day.
Good morning! Yeap, Monday’s come back around again. Mostly clear 🌅 and 26 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. 🍃 Kind of a cold start to the morning but it won’t last now that’s it Aprilp. Things will start to thaw out at around 8 am. 🌡️
Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 61 degrees at 3pm. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 18th. South wind 6 to 11 mph increasing to 12 to 17 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 79 was set in 1981. 11 inches of snow fell back in 1891.❄
I like all that sunlight streaming into my office 🏢 in the morning though I do miss those days of the pandemic working remotely 💻 on what will be such a nice day come midday. Today would be such a nice day to be working in the sun with the windows down in my truck.
Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:59 pm with sun having an altitude of 52.6° from the due south horizon (-18.2° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 6:46 pm with the sun in the west (272°).
Yesterday after the laundromat actually while drying, I stocked up on groceries. 🍏 One of the benefits of eating healthier is you mostly just walk the outside aisles which it makes it quicker. I ran into one of the executives from my office there but I don’t think she knows me well because I was kind of sweaty or shaved and dirty from the walk and the fact that I hadn’t showered since Friday. As I like to say, all my heroes burn their own trash and smell a little like cow shit. 🐮 I don’t rush out to wash clothes if they’re not dirty or I’m going to some kind of social event.
The sunset is in the west (278°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:23 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 7:51 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the Full 🌝 Moon in the east-southeast (110°) at an altitude of 31° from the horizon, 248,872 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 8:26 pm. I wonder if the potential for rain this evening 🌃 will interfere with my walk. Maybe though working late tonight will be a bigger interference though I’m inclined to think they’ll pass an extender and tonight won’t be an all nighter at work.

Today doesn’t look like the nicest day ever — indeed this morning is kind of cold and wet. I don’t think I’ll make it out to Five Rivers but maybe at least I can get some fresh air and walk down to the library. Tomorrow looks cold but sunny. Monday is better, but I’ll be stuck in the office all day.
That said, what I’m really looking at is next weekend. The rain is good mid-week for if I want to camp over the weekend and have a small, legal-sized fire, you know below 3 ft during the months of March 15 – May 15. Not a rip-roaring fire. But that’s fine. I do want something I can cook my dinner over, especially trout or samon smoked is really good.

It was raining ☔ hard when I first got up but stopped around 7:30 and I’m out and walking around 8:15. I was up at six o’clock but delayed walking due to the rain. Often on Saturday I delay getting an earlier start because I don’t have to but I don’t like to stay in bed too late.
Planning fairly typical Saturday, 📚 though probably no Five Rivers today as it’s going to be possibly quite wet later ☔ with thunderstorms ⛈ later. Thinking about going to the library later on.
I’m out walking though not as early as I often do as I slept well but was a bit slow rising as it was a bit cold with the heat off. I probably should have turned it on but it’s going to warm up as it’s essentially April.
Good morning! So yeap, on this Friday March isalmost done. Partly cloudy and 25 degrees in Delmar, NY. ⛅ Calm wind.Things will start to thaw out at around 8 am. 🌡️
Cold for the morning walk 🚶 but I’m getting it done. It certainly was colder in the winter but it’s good to get in as many steps as possible early as I think it’s going to rain later on. My ankle was bothering me last night for a while but I got my 7 1/2 miles in and it feels better today.

Yesterday, I missed the express downtown 🐰 🚏 as the bus was running like 5 minutes early, and the Real Time Bus Info was down. Heck of it is if I caught the bus at the traffic light at Delaware and Cherry I’d be good but I decided to walk down to the other bus stop so I wouldn’t have to deal with the pesky traffic light walk signal 🚦 which at times can be quick, but also can be incredibly slow at other times. Plus I wanted to get more steps in. It wasn’t that much of a delay, and the local got me to work a little after 9, which is still before most folks.

Too often the Criminal Justice system is reserved for the colored and the poor. While occasionally a low level politician will be indicted for a crime or even serve prison time for particularly egregious corruption it’s uncommon, and not because politicians are law abiding ethical people who aren’t often tied up with the underworld and shady corporations.
Law enforcement should focus more on public corruption and the ethics of public officials. They shouldn’t fear politicians, and they shouldn’t give politicians a pass in fear of looking political or partisan. Indeed, it should be the job of the opposing party in law enforcement – District Attorneys and police officers to keep politicians accountable. Criminals including politicians should fear the police and ultimately the justice system.
There are those who say justice shouldn’t be political. A jail cell is not the place for the criminal justice system to lock up political opponents. I agree, innocent people who didn’t break the law shouldn’t be indicted. But fear of being political shouldn’t give police a reason to fear criminals.
The use of the justice system to lock up political opponents is a problem when the court system is of one side, when the charges are dubious and not substantiated by the evidence. But when facts and reality are on the side of the people then the government should seek to bring the accused to justice.
The first amendment is a key right in America and is the right of political participation. But when you open your mouth, step out into the limelight and into the press, you are choosing to bring attention to yourself and that includes raising attention of law enforcement. If you are living a life of crime, then don’t run for political office. Be quiet, keep a low profile. But if you are honest, hardworking and a good person the risk of bringing yourself police attention is quite low as they’re isn’t much to bring attention about.
The key to avoid the abuse of police power and the justice system is not to never prosecute law breaking politicians. It’s to ensure competitive elections and that the justice system is fair to all involved. It’s to ensure that the courts and government agencies aren’t dominated by one party but investigate all politicians engaged in wrong doing.
