Day 2 Juneteenth Weekend Camping ๐Ÿ•

Good morning, Happy Friday as we head into the Juneteenth Weekend, that I decided to get a jump start on. Yesterday was quite beautiful out for a while but fairly cool, though I enjoyed swimming and floating in the tube on the East Canada Creek. Hiked up to the Potholers in the evening and sat down there for a while.

Expecting rain today โ˜” but I have tarps set up and brought my heater and rain coat and plan to do some reading ๐Ÿ“– this afternoon. Chopped up enough firewood for tonight and Saturday night so I’m case everything gets soaked from the rsum.

This morning though I’ll hike Old Edick Road, check out the swimming ๐ŸŠ hole along the way though no swimming but maybe later today depending on how cool it is.

Repatched the tube โญ• that I patched last year after snagging a tree, I the new patch is holding better after I applied extra rubber cement. I also got a new air pump as the old one wasn’t working well but boy oh boy did it make a lot of black smoke when I tossed it in the fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ last night lol.

Campstove is working good ๐Ÿฒ though I’m down to one burner as the other rotted out again. Not leaking propane like it often does. Got 7 summers and roughly 500 meals out of it but I think winter and rainy day camping was tough on it plus the heat from the camp oven and letting pots boil over on it. I was looking at getting another stove using gift cards from work I had saved up but I was worried it would arrive when I was camping then get rained on or grabbed by the porch pirates. I’m thinking about getting a stand alone unit so it can drain out better and not risk burning the table like in the past. I want to have a good stove, especially before Summer Vacation as I do a lot more cooking these days. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ

Your Flag Decal Won’t Get You Into Heaven Anymore ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Seems like the most appropriate John Prine song for this Flag Day 2023. I was going to post it Memorial Day being the irreverent SOB that I am but whatever. Loving America is also about criticizing it when our leaders are wrong. But what do I care, I’m leaving this town come tomorrow morning for the Adirondacks.

Good morning! What day is it? Flag Day, of course. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ At least in the parts of America that still celebrates such things. You can taste the wood smoke, cow shit and heavy fog ๐ŸŒซ around 52 degrees in Delmar, NY. It’s kind of nice when you live enough on the outskirts of the city to have the smells of the country. ๐Ÿฎ Calm wind. The dew point is 51 degrees. The AQI is 43. The skies will clear tomorrow around noontime.

Woke up at 5:30 this morning and had reheated egg quiche ๐Ÿฐ with coffee โ˜•. Went out for my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ and came back home and ran to the bathroom ๐Ÿšฝ and splattered shit all over the toilet and my boxers. They were fun to wash this morning. ๐Ÿ’ฉ I almost thought about tossing them as they don’t really fit anymore. In my rush to get out to the Bike Rescue ๐Ÿšฒ last night I decided to have the last chicken patty I had left in my freezer from before I decided to cut out processed unhealthy food from my diet. ๐Ÿ” I think it might have already gone bad or maybe I’m not used processed food, though I had it with plenty of beans, celery, onions and brown rice to supplement it. But it left me hungry and feeling sick ๐Ÿคฎ for the rest of the evening. It had a ton of salt in it and pretty high on fat too. My gut doesn’t like change, I had a similar situation when I first started eating a lot of oatmeal and fiber rich foods. I still don’t feel great but I think I’m past that now all cleaned up and showered. ๐Ÿ›€

Today will have a chance of showers, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after noon. Some of the storms could produce small hail and gusty winds. ๐ŸŒฆ High of 74 degrees at 12pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 27th. Maximum dew point of 60 at 2pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Light southeast wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies. The high last year was 83 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1892.

I drove down to the Trinity Center last night in the South End ๐Ÿšฒ, hoping to get some advice on rebuilding the back wheel of my old bicycle.I was still hoping for some advice on the wheel, but when I got there, the door was locked on the Trinity Center and the lights were off. ๐Ÿšช I walked around back to see if I missed, then moved my truck a little closer, deciding to double check that nobody was there, ringing the door bell but nobody arrived. Maybe they didn’t have volunteers, that happens, they’ve been closed the past few weeks. ๐Ÿคท‍โ™‚๏ธ

It’s fine, I decided I’ll bring the rear wheel to the Adirondacks this weekend and play with it some more. I am starting to doubt though that I’ll ever get this bicycle back on the road, ๐Ÿšณ as I keep discovering new issues. The thing about it was when I was unloading my bicycle I noticed my front wheel is now out of true, among other issues. But I do want to learn how to replace spokes, and learn more about bicycles. ๐Ÿ“š I got two books out of the library about bicycle repair, ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ”ง and I want to learn more about bicycles before I plunk down money for another used or rebuilt one. I think I will continue to cannibalize parts from this bicycle, and eventually donate it somewhere, but the mean time I can store in the crawl space. But next time I’ll call or email in advance โœ‰๏ธ before going down there.

It’s fine, I needed to get propane, some supplies from Walmart and fuel for my truck. โ›ฝ All much too expensive but I wanted to have everything I need for the trip, including an new air pump to inflate my tube or in case of emergency, a little bit of extra rubber cement to patch any leaks, some more kidney beans, olives, and a few other groceries. ๐Ÿช Going to get fresh veggies and fruit on my way up to camp, probably stop in Gloversville at Price Chopper to get those things. Often the quality is better then Walmart, and it will be hopefully more fresh shopping on Thursday. But more expensive. Everything has gotten so darn expensive these days. ๐Ÿ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:56 pm with sun having an altitude of 70.6° from the due south horizon (-0.2° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:52 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (296°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (304°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:35 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 27 seconds with dusk around 9:09 pm, which is 27 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:55 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 63 degrees. The dew point will be 58 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 20 minutes of daytime, an increase of 29 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 10pm, then a chance of showers. Some of the storms could produce small hail. ๐ŸŒง Low of 56 degrees at 3am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 8th. Maximum dew point of 59 at 6pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ South wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2022, we had clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 57 degrees. The record low of 42 occurred back in 1985.

Heading out of town for a Long Weekend starting on Thursday morning. ๐Ÿ• I was going to take off Friday and Tuesday, but it looks like the legislature will be back on Tuesday, so I best be back on Juneteenth. Plus Thursday looks like one of the best weather days of the long weekend. Friday looks cold and wet. I am going to bring my propane heater, along with the tarp for sure. It will be nice to be away from it all for some time. My radio doesn’t work, so I will be fully off-grid without cell service. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Hoping for some sun for swimming and to keep hte solar working well so my batteries are good.

Kind of a mixed bag but cool for the long weekend. ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ Thursday, sunny and 78. Friday, best chance of showers on and off all day, high 72. Saturday, showers likely, mainly after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 71. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Maximum dew point of 59 at 11am. Sunday, a chance of showers after 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 76. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Juneteenth, mostly sunny with showers late. High near 78. Maximum dew point of 58 at 10am. Typical average high for the weekend is 80 degrees.

As Looking ahead, next Wednesday is Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:38 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 70 and 51 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 81 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1938. That means the Mine Kill Pool should be open then ๐ŸŠ so if it’s nice that’s a lot of fun. But next weekend is a way off and I want to look at bicycles that weekend first before deciding if I want to go swimming. But also it would be great to get some fresh produce at the farm stands in the Schoharie Valley, do some camping and adventures not so far from home.

The Old Rotting Macintosh System 7 ๐Ÿ

I abandoned Apple when they abandoned System 7 aka Mac OS 8/9 for Mac OS X. I liked the old System 7, it was an amazing operating system from the user experience but it’s underpinnings by the mid 1990s were full of rust and groaned if didn’t crash regularly every time you used it under the weight of the then modern computing demands – the MultiFinder wirh shared memory and cooperative sharing of system resources where terribly big unstable hacks by the demands of modern computing in the mid 1990s.

I remember reading about the New World Infrastructure on the Macintosh. It was such a major hack to make the whole system work. Things like whole sections of the ROM contained legacy code never executed but quickly patched over by the boot loader but still required to initially boot the system. But the user experience when things played along and didn’t crash was amazing.

I’m still mad Apple dumped the Copeland project and System 7 after all these years for Mac OS X. I think they could have built a cleaner undercarriage under the Old System 7 without destroying all in the user space that made System 7 so amazing, especially in the earlier years before the unstable kludges became more prominent after System 7.1 or so. Shared libraries are good but System 7.5 adopted a ton of unstable, often cryptically named shared libraries that was part of system’s downfall even if modern computing demanded it.

Two days until Flag Day and Trump’s Birthday ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

I still got my big ol six foot flag hanging out at my place in the burbs though soon I plan to take it up in the woods camping for the long weekend. Might need to take it in though on flag day as it’s expected to rain, which is very much needed. And the fact it’s Trump’s 77th birthday come Wednesday, it’s a reminder we need fewer geriatrics in the White House.

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Partly cloudy and 62 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… Do bring your umbrella or rain coat if you expect to be late today, it will likely rain by evening. โ˜” There is a south-southeast breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 58 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 2 pm.

I’m up and going this morning ๐Ÿ˜ด though not as early as I would have hoped as my sleep is seriously messed up from all those late nights at work and I simply didn’t get to bed ๐Ÿ› by nine like I should have been and went down memory lane ๐Ÿ’ญ remembering those olden days of Macintosh System 7 and the promise of Copeland. ๐Ÿ–ฅ I’m glad I use open source software these days as it’s less likely to be abandoned, witness things like GNU FORTRAN all these decades later.

Today will have a slight chance of showers before 7am, then a chance of showers after 10am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 80 degrees at 3pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 16th. Maximum dew point of 64 at 11am. South wind 5 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 78 degrees. The record high of 95 was set in 2017.

Back to work today ๐Ÿข but things should be relatively quiet now that session is over once I figure out this cap grant on my desk that was really puzzling me on Friday. I bought angel ๐Ÿ˜‡ food cake, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, bananas, whip cream and Greek yogurt for a summer party ๐ŸŽ‰ at work this afternoon. ๐Ÿ– Planning to work three or four days this week before heading north. โ›บ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:56 pm with sun having an altitude of 70.5° from the due south horizon (-0.3° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.1 foot shadow today. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:51 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (296°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (303°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:34 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 27 seconds with dusk around 9:08 pm, which is 31 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:54 pm.

At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 72 degrees. The dew point will be 61 degrees. There will be a southeast breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 19 minutes of daytime, an increase of 38 seconds over yesterday.

Tomorrow I want to go to the Albany Bicycle Rescue after work ๐Ÿšฒ to get some advice and help on rebuilding the wheel on my bicycle. I figure it either will be helpless and not worth repairing, or I will get some tips. I briefly checked out the used bicycle sale at MadDog though I didn’t stop in but if I can’t fix my bike, I want to get rid of the old one by donating it and then buying a new one, by the end of the month.

Tonight will have showers and thunderstorms before 3am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 3am and 5am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5am. ๐ŸŒง Low of 60 degrees at 6am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 23rd. Maximum dew point of 64 at 1am. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Southeast wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Sounds like a good chance for beneficial rain. In 2022, we had light rain in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 1974.

On this day in 1967, the United States Supreme Court in Loving v. Virginia declares all U.S. state laws which prohibit interracial marriage to be unconstitutional. Next year it will be a half century since this decision, which helped to lead to the gay marriage decision many years later.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 78. Maximum dew point of 57 at 7pm. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 79. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 60 at 7pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 80 degrees.

As previously noted, next Monday is Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– when the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 73 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 80 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1995.

Missing Door on Outhouse

And then I was done with an * And now my thoughts are beach baby, beach. ๐Ÿ–

It will be a great summer. That is if it ever warms up again and the legislature doesn’t come back for a, summer session which will happen at one point or another. Okay, today will be in the low eighties but they’re talking about highs in the 60s and 70s for mid June. I don’t think we’ve had a real hot and muggy day yet this year. Hit ninety a couple of times but with very little humidity. Then again I’m not as well insulated as I once was.

Good morning! Partly cloudy and 54 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… Calm wind. The dew point is 52 degrees.

It’s a pretty nice morning. ๐ŸŒ… I’m out walking ๐Ÿšถ as usual, have a pot of red kidney beans on the stove simmering down. ๐Ÿฒ I was actually studying all the different types of beans they have at the store including some of the soup mixes. I’ll have to do some bean soup come the winter, especially if I avoid too much salt and fats in it. Legumes are so healthy and the nature of beans is they fill you up quickly and keep you full all day.

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 82 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 24th. Maximum dew point of 58 at 11am. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 78 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1947.

Yesterday I worked from home the bulk of the day ๐Ÿ’ป, it was just a lot of waiting around for Committee Agendas and calendars to be released, checking votes and responding to miscellaneous emails ๐Ÿ“ง. It’s all time I can use next week for going to the Adirondacks. โ›บ In the afternoon I went down to the library ๐Ÿ“š both to work and get books out. I got some books out on bicycle repair ๐Ÿšฒ. Then I came home, had dinner and got groceries. ๐Ÿช

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:56 pm with sun having an altitude of 70.5ยฐ from the due south horizon (-0.4ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:51 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (296ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (303ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:34 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 27 seconds with dusk around 9:07 pm, which is 33 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:53 pm.

I got a good night’s sleep ๐Ÿ˜ด last night not rushing out this morning. Planning on banana – oatmeal pancakes ๐Ÿฅž ๐ŸŒ this morning with coffee โ˜• after I get done walking and get milk ๐Ÿฅ› at Stewart’s. I’m going to get a gallon of skim milk this time as I want to make sure I’m getting enough calcium and vitamin D in my diet plus I’m heading out camping ๐Ÿ• on Thursday for the long weekend. Plus I have a free half gallon card this week.

Today I’m heading out to the Gas Up with dad ๐Ÿšœ which should be fun as the last time I went was before the pandemic. I’m sure things haven’t changed that much. But should be fun. Then I have to start getting ready for the upcoming work week and heading out of town for camp. โ›บ

At sunset, look for potential rain showers ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 74 degrees. The dew point will be 60 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 19 minutes of daytime, an increase of 42 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have isolated showers before 9pm, then isolated showers after midnight. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 62 degrees at 6am. Five degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 60 at 8pm. On this day in 1963, Buddhist monk Thรญch Quแบฃng ฤแปฉc burns himself with gasoline in a busy Saigon intersection to protest the lack of religious freedom in South Vietnam. The self-immolation would be captured on film and would go around the world ๐Ÿ”ฅ . On the same day, John F. Kennedy addresses Americans from the Oval Office proposing the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that propsed equal access to public facilities, end segregation in education and guarantee federal protection for voting rights. โš–

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will be World Population Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ง when the sun will be setting at 8:35 pm with dusk at 9:07 pm. The average high temperature is 34 degrees, with a record high of 61 in 1895.
