A time to take down camp β›Ί

My three nights are done at this campsite. β›Ί I’m undecided if I will head down to Stewart Landing or head up to Powley Place though I admit my mind is made up for the later as I’m not ready to head back to civilization where there is cell πŸ“± service, email πŸ“§ and news πŸ“° all around. I’ve been quite happy 😊 not having a working radio πŸ“» this weekend.

If I go to Powley Place I think πŸ€” I would prefer campsite 10 out in the Plains but if not available then the bridge site. Or maybe I want the bridge site so I can kayak πŸ›Ά and tube directly from the site. Not a lot of solar power opportunity there due to the trees but I’m not sure how sunny it’s going to be but I’m hoping it clears out so I can look at the vast starry 🀩 skies from there.

I might hike back to Goldmine Stream Falls this afternoon to get my steps πŸ‘£ in and enjoy the solitude by the falls. One of my favorite things is just a quiet walk 🚢 through the woods on a dirt road with gentile hills where I can enjoy nature.

Just one more night πŸŒƒ before I have to return to the craziness of it all πŸ€ͺ, legislative session included on Tuesday but I’d rather not focus on that or how many urgent emails πŸ“§ will be in my box come Monday afternoon. I want to take down camp before the rain tomorrow but I’m quite okay spending as much time as possible at the Potholers 🏊 before the sunny and warm conditions turn to thunderstorms and rain. β›ˆοΈ

As none of my undershirts and boxers fit now that I’ve lost so much weight, and being it’s a session day Tuesday and Wednesday, 🩲 I’m thinking I might just buy more underwear as I’m going to need it rather than go to laundromat as I think otherwise I should be okay for a four day week. Plus my oversized clothes are wearing out and the remaining good stuff I have I’ll have as extra for summer vacation to avoid having to go to the laundromat on vacation. πŸ– It’s embarrassing how sometimes I feel my boxes sliding down loose in my pants. πŸ‘–

As predicted, a cool and cloudy Saturday up on Piseco-Powley 🌦️

Not a lot of rain today though enough that I needed the rain coat πŸ§₯ when I walked up to Powley Place. None of rain was heavy, it was mostly showers and not all day. Mid morning though was cool, I actually nodded off for a while listening to a podcast over the warmth of the propane heater. ♨️ Fortunately thought I didn’t fall on the heater.

We had a bit of sun and blue skies both in the morning and evening, though not a lot. But it was everything I expected and I had lots of time read πŸ“– besides the ten πŸ”Ÿ miles I walked today mostly along Piseco Powley Road.

Traffic Counts – Delmar

I went for my morning walk about a half hour later then normal and noticed how busy the traffic. I thought it would be interesting to bring up the traffic records locally to see how many cars were moving at rush hour.

We had some blue skies to start out the morning on Saturday πŸŒ₯️

Not a lot of sun though you could see it peaking β˜€ through the clouds as I was floating in the tube β• in the East Canada Creek. Then it clouded up again but at least I had a chance to get cleaned up a bit and some time floating down the river.

No-see-ums were biting like crazy this morning 🐜 that I pretty much rushed into the screen tent πŸŽͺ. That said it was fine, I spent my breakfast and then after in the tent. Sprinkles 🌧️ kept me from setting up the hammock today.

I am a bit chilled through πŸ₯Ά from floating in the tube but I have the heater to warm myself up. ♨️ I have a full tank of propane so I don’t have to worry about running out.

I plan to read πŸ“– some today, listen to podcasts πŸ”Š and do some hiking along the East Canada Creek. Maybe hike all the way to Powley Place, though that’s a pretty good distance and I don’t want to get too far from camp should the sky really open up. Often just sitting by the Potholers makes me happy 😊, the falls provide solitude.

Might not be the nicest summer day, but I’m glad I’m away from it all, with not even a radio πŸ“» to deliver the bad news πŸ“° back to the back country. My selection of podcasts and downloaded videos is far better than any crap I’d be listening to on the news.

I can’t complain too much the rain held off for most of the day. 🌦️

Rain started around 6 o’clock β˜” when I was walking back from my hike to House Pond, which I bushwhacked along the Brandy Brook to the Old Edick Road snowmobile trail. While the bushwhack wasn’t difficult, the Brandy Brook is hardly even a brook and didn’t have any particularly interesting waterfalls. Mostly just very conventional low land Adirondack woods, not many old growth trees back there.

Read πŸ“– for a few hours in the hammock, mostly the book I got about bicycles 🚲 and their repair. I guess I’m learning something from the book, a lot of it is about the physics of bicycles and the chemistry of the metals used to make up their frames. I guess I never thought how scientific bicycles are.

I was going to swim πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ this afternoon, or more likely float in the tube β• and fir a short while the sun came out and was quite delightful but then more clouds πŸŒ₯️ pushed in, the wind picked up and my mind was changed.

Black flies were horrendous and I was quite happy to hide out under the bug net I use with my hammock. 🐜 It works good but it does feel kind of claustrophobic when your surrounded by such a little screen. Basically when I wasn’t under the bug screen in the hammock I was in the screen tent πŸŽͺ or applying DEET although out hiking wasn’t so bad.

Then laying back in the hammock🀦 I turned left and somehow pulled a muscle in my neck and now hurts when I turn too far to the left, especially if I am looking left and up. It just hurts hard when I do that. πŸ₯²Looking right or turning my neck the other way is fine but I’m thinking if I don’t recover it’s going to make merging on the expressway a challenge though I think I can do like I did coming out here and take the local roads home. I’m sure I’ll recover fine on my own or I’ll be calling my new doctor πŸ“ž come Tuesday. πŸ§‘β€βš•οΈ
