Hopefully you didn’t set the pasture on fire burning boxes and wrapping paper yesterday. Because there is plenty of videos of people doing crazy shit like that on interwebs and yesterday was a bit windy, although at least locally things were still pretty wet and icy.
Partly clear and 29 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌅 There is a north-northwest breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. At some point the sun will rise. Cold day ahead around dirty-thirty, things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 7 am. 🌡️ Everything will be so dirty from all the salt and sand they’re applying to the roads to keep people slip-sliding along.
Another dark morning, but that is to be expected this time of year. 🌃 At some point the sun will rise, or so we tell ourselves. Actually, it’s already starting to get a bit light out. And I get up as I like to walk laps on the plaza before work. 🏃♀️ It’s good exercise and I just like being up early and then to bed early. Makes me happier, I sleep better and I just feel more relaxed. Good for the mental health side of things I think. And what I think is really what matters. I don’t give a darn about you think.
Four Day Work Week. 🎆 As Friday is New Years Eve and Saturday is the New Year. Twenty-twenty-two. There is a lot of 2s in next year, but hopefully it won’t be a crappy year. 💩 Got to make that money. 💵 Especially because I ended up sending $130 at Wally World last night, although I did get a lot of things including an electric blanket, so I’m not so cold at night when I’m stubborn and refuse to turn up the heat. And undershirts, because I’ve lately not been washing my clothes every week, and it seems like the thing I run out of first is undershirts without a lot of holes in them.
I’ve wanted an electric blanket for some time now, 🛌 and they had an after-Christmas sale for $33 at Walmart for a full-size bed, which is about $15 less then what I saw online. I wanted something I could get warm quickly under without turning up the heat or using the space heater. Will it save that much money? I don’t know, but it sure is comfortable to lay under in cold weather.
That wind will make it feel colder then it really is. But all week should be relatively mild to close out the year. But watch out for ice on Monday, salt spreaders have to make up for lost time. So far though New Years Eve and Day look pretty good, but things could change in the mean-time.

Icy out as I found when I went outside to grab something out of Big Red. ⛸ But I suspect at least on the roads the salt should not make it too rough, and I’ll probably hike out to Five Rivers in a bit. 🐦 Then this afternoon I need to get to the store — maybe Walmart or I could go across the river to Aldis and get groceries for the week. I also want to wash as much of the salt off of Big Red in Glenmont. Did you see they raised the prices at the Car Wash too? 🚿 💸 Inflation, it’s for real. And maybe return beer cans from camping.
Then it’s back to work on Monday. 💼 Only a four-day week with New Years Eve on Friday, but the other director is off this week, so everything falls on my lap. Lucky me. But I did get off a week, and I got out of town for four days, granted in rather cloudy and cold Central New York. But it’s winter and three months until April when it starts to get nicer, or so I tell myself.
Had a nice Christmas Lunch at the folks house on Christmas Eve 🎄 🎅 And then a very quiet Christmas at home, working on various little projects I had in the wings, including building a database for Save the Pine Bush with property data. It’s not quite done yet though, and will require more work. Also been working on refining map styles for the blog, and trying to create a state-wide set of contours to use on maps. I also finished unpacking from the camping trip, and doing some cleaning. I know, not the most romantic Christmas ever — but I didn’t want to drive back on Christmas in the rain and ice.
Winter is still here as indicated by the fresh snow we got in Albany. 🌨
I actually came home yesterday evening in part because I wanted to hike yesterday with the sun out plus I knew the roads would be crappy this morning in Madison County with the relatively cold weather and the overnight snow.
