Good evening! Definitely a cold day for my 39th birthday 🎂
I did something that I haven’t done in a long time — slept in late. But I also stayed up fairly late last night, until around 10 PM. But it just looked so cold outside, and my apartment was cold, so I was quite happy to stay home and inside today, just taking it slow and decompressing from the busy week and weekend that was last weekend. I might have to go into the office tomorrow, so I wasn’t in a rush to be a busy body, plus I didn’t want to get my truck covered with salt right after washing it on Tuesday earlier in the week. Going to get salty tomorrow when I go out to the folks house and maybe into the office, but hopefully not as bad as it would have been today.

We got a little bit of snow this morning, ❄️ but really not a lot. More like a dusting, maybe an inch or two on the existing snow. But the real story was just the continued cold and wind most of the day. What we didn’t get in snow was more then made up for by the cold. I was more then happy to stay snug in my bed 🛌 well into the morning hours, then spend the remainder of the day either next to heater and heating pad on my bed or working on some day on my computer.
Needless to say, I did not go out for my evening walk. 🍝 I did have a nice dinner of spaghetti and meatballs and garlic bread for dinner though. That’s about as fancy as I cook. Especially with inflation, always looking for ways to save money, that because my bank account only had $62 above the minimum. Granted I get paid next Tuesday, and all that matters is I maintain the minimum balance for the month, but it just seems like as soon as money comes in, it goes out to pay the rent, the heat, the food and fuel bills. ⛽ My credit card balance was lower this month, as I didn’t do any traveling 🏠 but money sure seemed to go out the door. Part of it was the big tax bill I had this month, to cover some of my dividend taxes, but I expect I will still end up owing money when I file my taxes.
I thought about going down to the library, 📚 but it just was so cold out, and I don’t like the whole muzzle thing, and I can find ways to entertain myself at home. Plus for a good portion of the day, my shoulder was super sore, 👤 it’s like I pulled a muscle in it or something last night. I wasn’t sure why my whole left side of body felt so awful — it’s the COVID of course — but then it went away. I don’t remember lifting anything heavy or doing anything to hurt my shoulder, but maybe I’m getting old.
Does my birthday feel any different then any other cold wintery Saturday in January? 👴 Really know, but I’ve come to realize birthdays like most holidays aren’t particularly special or noteworthy. It’s nice though when you have them off, although it just happened that this year was a Saturday. And I certainly needed the day to decompress after a busy week last week. There was a usual drove of Facebook comments, text messages and other kind words said to me on my birthday, 🎂 but I’m just more focused on surviving another day, in the cold awful winter ⛄ and making it to nicer days when it’s sunny and warm out during the summer.
It looks like I’ll need to turn the heat back up tonight 🌨
It doesn’t look like Saturday will be a big snow event locally but that could change for sure. Then milder by the second half of next week which is good because I get tired of paying for the heat. Maybe it will be warm enough that following weekend to get out of town.
Tuesday is February so I am hopeful that the weather will moderate soon. Winters fury can’t last forever. There is only two weeks until Presidents Day Weekend, so maybe that will be a good weekend to get away for a few days. I’ve been chewing over possibly going out to Chenango County and doing some camping 🏕 and ice fishing 🎣 on Balsam Pond but a lot depends on the weather — and I would need to call NYSDEC Region 6 to confirm they are plowing the access road this year like in years past.

Last Friday of January. February the shortest month of the year starts Tuesday. Tomorrow is my 39th birthday and I’m getting a snow storm as a birthday gift although it will be mostly cold and little snow here or maybe not.

Without the wind and the relatively mild temperatures it feels almost spring like. 🌸 I know just wait until next week when it’s in the 40s and it will feel like beach weather. Spring is coming though I expect another cool down come February.
I was bad and skipped my evening walk 🚶 yesterday mainly because I was tired 😴 and wanted to retire to bed by 8 pm. This time of year it’s so dark and cold for the evening walk. I did take the express both ways yesterday and walked back and forth for that but I skipped my lunch time walk as it was so cold and the emails 📧 kept rolling in.
Already the evenings are getting brighter 🌇 making the walk home from the express not so dark and hopefully the temperatures will moderate a bit with February not that far away. I used to walk down to the library a lot more but with the muzzles I don’t do that much any more.
It’s kind of remarkable to think that tomorrow I will be turning 39 years old 🧓. Time goes by quickly and I’ve gotten so gray so quickly. Forty in a year. A lot has changed and a lot has stayed the same over the decade that has come and gone. But I keep saving and investing, 🤑 and I know the best is yet to come. 🐷 🚜 🏘
But things are warming up quickly as the sun rises. The wind though will make things feel fairly cold today, even if it’s not the negative 8 it was earlier in the morning. Then tonight won’t be so cold nor will Friday but then come Friday night through the weekend, it will be cold. But after early next week, it looks like we will have a warm up for a while? And then does the ridge break down, and we have more seasonable February weather?

Maybe I shouldn’t have turned the heat down before going to work or at least wore gloves 🧤 but it’s going to warm up quickly and be in the mid 20s today and not nearly as cold tonight. I felt plenty warm under the electric blanket when I turned it on in the morning. 🌅
I actually didn’t get up until about 7 am as it was warm in my bed 🛏 and I woke up in the night around 4 am and couldn’t get back to sleep for about an hour, ultimately opening up my phone 📱 and flipping through social media. It’s a bad habit but I get my hours of sleep in by getting to bed before 9.
Forgot my muzzle again today 😷 but this time I wasn’t so far away from home, so I could run back and still had time to walk down to the Park and Ride 🚏for the bus 🚍.
I did my eveningwalk 🚶 yesterday and it wasn’t too cold. I did wear gloves and bundle up before going out. Then I went to bed relatively early.
I mean who doesn’t like the sun? I just don’t like paying for the heat, I’d rather spend my money burning my share of fossils up in my truck rather then making the National Gird of UK the wealthy people. That said, with the wind expected to slack off this evening, I should be able to bundle up and go out for my evening walk. 🚶♀️ Recent research confirms that I am 10 times less grumpy when I can go out for my walks. 😀 Soon though I might also be able to do morning walks, even on session days if I get up good and early.
It’s bright out much earlier and later then in recent past, so maybe it’s morning in Biden’s America. 🌅 That or winter is ending and the Ground Hog 🐻 won’t see his shadow next Wednesday. Remember with global warming, the Ground Hog sees his shadow a lot less then in years past. Of course, that begs the question, does the Ground Hog see his shadow less because of Climate Change, or is his lack of vision as it relates to shadow, causing the planet to warm?
