A new deadly bird flu is infecting wild birds and may not go away : NPR

In Florida, for example, more than 1,000 lesser scaup ducks have succumbed to the virus. In New Hampshire, about 50 Canadian geese died in a single event. In the Great Plains states, wildlife experts have seen mass die-offs in snow geese.

"In addition, there's a host of other species, including black vultures and bald eagles and some of the other scavenging species, that were likely infected by consuming the carcasses of those waterfowl," says Richards.

It remains to be seen how much of a toll this virus will take on American bird species.

Daily Update – April 8, 2022

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday, Part 2! ☺

I guess it was still a Friday when I drive home from work last night and it still Friday, Part 2.

Rain showers, clouds and 45 degrees in Delmar, NY. β˜” There is a northwest breeze at 5 mph. πŸƒ. The skies will clear around 1 pm.

Got home at 12:30 last night πŸŒƒ and after seven odd hours of sleep πŸ› I’m up for my morning walk 🚢. Obviously no evening walk last night. Hundreds of earth worms on the pavement after yesterday’s heavy rain β˜”.

It was a late night at work 🏒 and I miss those years gone by but so be it. I’ll catch the bus in today 🚍 so if I’m a bit sleepy I won’t be driving home. Take a nap under my desk if I miss the last bus home and catch the first bus home in the morning. Probably won’t make it to the transfer station but I can always smash bottles down more. β™»

This weekend looks relatively mild 🌧️but rainy. I am probably going to be recovering from the past few days and next weekend is Easter 🐰 and a three day weekend assuming the budget is done and Good Friday is a holiday.

Still hoping to get out of town next weekend β›Ί, maybe exploring Moss Island and camping up at Stewart Landing although I wonder how soft the road will be up there back to the campsites. The DEC did improve it a few years back. I know Piseco-Powley is still gated.
