Daily Update – May 10, 2022

Good morning! Happy Tuesday, Ready for some Warm Weather? 🏖

Actually quite pleasant weather as the needle won’t even be moving much on the mug o meter with dew points only to reach the fifties by the peak of the heat wave.

Sunny and 36 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌞 There is a north-northwest breeze at 5 mph. 🍃.

Still fairly cool this morning 🚶 heading out for my morning walk at 6:15 am. But I like how early the sun rises now and how calm things are before the morning rush hour. 🚘 Especially as the heat of summer comes I might start doing my morning walk before breakfast 🥣.

Woke up at 4 am and started reading 📖 about the open class materials from Penn State’s class on Spatial Auto Correlation. 🗺 Basically its a class on how to detect clusters and draw conclusions from statistical models from Geographic data. Yesterday I upgraded R on my laptop to 4.2 so I could use the rgeoda package 📦. I’ve use the geoda stand alone app but it’s clunky and a pain to use so I’d much rather use it directly in R where I can use code rather than a lot of dialogs.

Still not a lot of green 🌄 in the Helderbergs yet. Spring is late for May 10th but so far we haven’t had a warm up. After this week though I expect things will change although still so far many of the nights in the outlying locations have been quite frosty.

Finally put away the electric blanket and space heater ♨️ away and got the fan out. I’ll have to open the rest of the windows. 🔳 Although it’s going to take a while for the real hot weather to approach so I’m not worried about it being too hot when I get home. Plus I don’t expect to get home until pretty late.

The past few days have been so busy at work. 🏢 It’s the end of session with a what seems like a billion bills moving through committee, people keep getting the COVID 😷 and more and more projects keep popping up. I just don’t think heading out of town this weekend is a realistic option.

Weather Update – May 9, 2022

Warm but not real humid for the second half of the week 🌦️

Looks like the chance of showers is increasing for the weekend. It’s fine, I’ll probably be working and gas prices are creeping back up again. Black flies are likely bad up north. And I’ll likely end up working remotely so any where I would go I’d need cell service and my laptop.

Daily Update – May 9, 2022

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. ☺

I tell you weekends are getting shorter especially when you end up working it half from home. Cool but clear this morning for the walk walk 🚶 but that’s changing.

Sunny and 36 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌞 Calm wind.

Yesterday I hiked out to Five Rivers 🐸 in the morning and then in the afternoon went to the tulip 🌷 festival for a while at the Save the Pine Bush booth with my muzzle on. 😷 I really didn’t stray far as there was so many crowds there without masks during what is the biggest COVID-19 uptick in a while. I just don’t like festivals, the crowds, the drunkness and the wastefulness of such events.

I also went to the store 🏪last night and knew I forgot something important, namely contact solution. 👀 I have a small freebie bottle 🍾 I got that I can probably use this week, as I hate driving 🚘 during the week days especially with gas ⛽ so expensive. Plus after long days at work I get tired 😴 and the last thing I want to do is go to the store. 🛒

I was up much to late by my standards Saturday night 🌃 playing with the redist R library and sequential Monte Carlos districting, experimenting with ways to classify things on maps. 🗺 While the primary goal 🥅 of the library is to compare random district plans to proposed plans to detect how gerrymandered districts are, it actually does a good job of generating sample districts and groupings that comply with certain parameters you desire.

Daily Update – May 7, 2022

Good afternoon! Happy Saturday.

Busy morning, I was up at six o’clock doing work. I feel guilty as shit for playing hookie in the wilderness last weekend while work fell on everyone.

Mostly cloudy and 54 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a east-northeast breeze at 14 mph. 🍃. The skies will clear tomorrow around 4 am.

In a little bit I am heading out to the folks house 👪 for Sunday dinner 🍔 a day earlier then normal because my parents are going out for Mother’s Day. Plus tomorrow is the tulip 🌷 festival and I’m going to help out at the Pine Bush booth.

I am thinking later of hiking Bennett Hill 🐮 🗻 and enjoying the view before dusk 🌆. It’s on my way out to the parents house so coming home I can hit it up. ⛽ With gas prices what they are these days I try to do whatever I can to consolidate trips and leave my big jacked up truck parked 🅿 as much as possible.

Probably one summer comes and the Nature Bus 🚍 returns that will be a regular thing to do on Saturdays when I’m in town. It’s fun to take the electric bus, pack a lunch, some books and a hammock and spend the day up at Thacher Park 🏞. And it doesn’t cost anything which is good with inflation so high.

Tomorrow after the Tulip 🌷 Festival I probably should go shopping 🛒 as I’m low on groceries and I need contact solution 👀 and other supplies. Probably Walmart as they still have the best prices with inflation and bulk packaging which means less to have to burn or take to the transfer station. ♻ I like lightweight plastics that can just be chucked in the garbage bag and get burnt. I hate washing out cans 🥫. Although fire 🔥 can be helpful for that too.
