Good morning! A FoggyMonday’s come back around again.
Seems like that happens every week. Just not every Monday is foggy but that’s what happens when the dew point is almost the temperature.

Out walking 🚶 at 6:15 this morning. I like doing my morning walk before breakfast 🥣 as there is less traffic and pollution around the high school 🚸 and it’s just a lot quieter.
Only three 3⃣ more weeks of session 🕴️so I will probably go back to riding the express bus 🚍 and doing my morning walk on the Plaza. Won’t be quite as early then. With over 50 Assembly primaries on June 28th, I just don’t see things dragging on much past the final scheduled day on June 2nd. I’d like to get out of town once things are a bit calmer at work, 💼 although this weekend wasn’t as bad as I had feared work wise. Maybe Memorial Day Weekend I can get out of town. I don’t know, it’s often really buggy and I’ll probably have work to do with the end of session.
My truck is due for an oil 🛢 change so I should make that appointment and also maybe have the tires rotated. 🛠 I drive so little these days it could wait but I want it done before I’m traveling. I used to change my own oil but it’s a hastle finding the oil and filter and doing the change myself. Plus I don’t have a lift or torque wrench it the desire to lift the 35 inch tires myself and I make good money 💵.
Hopefully in a few weeks it will be nice enough to get out of town ⛺ and I can enjoy floating in the tube on a lazy Saturday afternoon, taking off a Friday or Monday too. At least it looks like the Assembly primaries are going to remain in June so that’s nice.
I discovered that Google is a great place to discover new podcasts. 🎧 They seem to have a lot better suggestions than my podcast app has. Lately it just seems like there is less and less interesting podcast episodes out there and very little worth listening to on the radio 📻. I especially like to find good ones to listen to at camp but also at night 🌃 in bed.
Yesterday hiked Bennett Hill in the evening. 🐜 Mosquitoes are out now but not so bad. After the heat and humidity of late, things are really starting to green up in the hill towns. People got their big piles of brush, lumber and other burnable debris ready to go now thst May 15 has come and gone and bonfires 🔥 are somewhat lawful again.

Always happens this way. Too bad it’s too early in the year that swimming pools aren’t open and I’m stuck in town with work, gas prices, and everything else going on. Black flies are bad up north and thunderstorms are expected later. I guess I could slap the kayak on my truck and go for a paddle on the Hudson River, but I don’t like dealing with tides, and that costs money with gas and everything being so expensive these days.

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Going to be the first hot summer day of the summer. 😎
Already starting to get to be a real hot day with lots of humidity. With gas prices and thunderstorms expected later I don’t think I will drive anywhere, though I’m thinking of packing some water and heading out to Five Rivers later. I don’t expect to see much wildlife, but I like to get my steps in.

In some ways this week turned out nicer weather-wise then expected 🌤 but it is a lot more muggy then I would have guessed by earlier predictions. But I am enjoying sitting by the fan at home, experimenting with some new ways process GIS data in R. I really enjoy working with the rich functions with good defaults in R — lately I’ve been switching much of my legacy PHP and Python code over to R. 💻Hadley Wickman really is a super brilliant person and his contributions to the tidyverse just make it the perfect tool to do so much with data.
I should go out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center before the thunderstorms ⛈️ but it’s hot and I like sitting by the fan. I like walking 🚶 and getting my steps in and I just don’t want to burn gas ⛽ with fuel prices these days. It would be nice to make it to June without having gased up since before my April trip to the Adirondacks. 🅿 I haven’t started my truck since last Sunday, saves fuel when it’s not running.
Yesterday being Friday the 13th, 💵 I decided against investing my tax refund. The responsible thing would be to get more bonds but I sure like chasing those returns that stocks produce, even though I fully expect markets to drop significantly over the next few months. But I doubt any losses are permanent and I’m in for the long haul. And if some of the losses become permanent the gains over the past decade will all but make up for it.
It always hits you how hot and muggy summers are 😰, although I’m sure some of it is being spoiled from the air conditioning office 🏢 downtown. Past two years it was a lot of hot and sweaty days working out of my truck at the library 📚. I could go to the library today and work inside to beat the heat but ever since the pandemic it’s not the same. Not sure if the muzzles 😷 are still required at the library though if I was walking around there I would probably wear mine.
Then more showers possible Saturday into Sunday, especially in the afternoon. But today should be a pretty nice, warm day even by summer standards.

Taking the later express bus 🚍 downtown as I wasn’t moving that fast this morning 🏃 and I don’t think it will be a great morning for walking laps on the Plaza. I still should get in 3,000 to 4,000 steps in walking down to the express and from the Empire Plaza bus garage to work.
Last night I went down to Elm Avenue park 🏞 and read 📖 for about an hour, and read more of Willie Robertson’s American Hunter. I won’t say it’s the most academic text ever but still an interesting read.
I been thinking about playing the dip ▶ in the market and buying some more stock with things being down although probably there will be a dead cat 🙀 bounce before my trade is completed. I have some extra money from my tax refund 💵 and it’s just losing value as inflation eats away at everything.
The CDTA nature bus 🚍 returns this summer, though it looks like the service is just a skeleton of what it was last year. Only runs to Thacher Park 🏞 every two weeks and and much fewer trips and no stops at Five Rivers on the way to Thacher Park. I’m a little bit disappointed, I enjoyed the service last year. Might use it once or twice but probably far less. Sucks, especially with gas prices so high. ⛽ I might instead just go back to walking out to Five Rivers.
