CDTA Bus Stop #10595

The bus stop at Delaware and Cherry Avenue, near the Valero Station which offers a shelter and some landscaping. To this day, they have yet to fix the bus stop so it’s paved between the shelter and the road.

February 5, 2018 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Yeapers, I forgot to set my alarm clock. ⏰It’s unfortunate that I can’t sleep through winter like most of the groundhogs do but I need the money. Two weeks to Presidents Day.👹 Partly sunny and 22 degrees in Delmar. β›…Breezy, 23 mph breeze from the west-northwest with gusts up to 34 mph. 💨💨The current wind chill is 6. Didn’t seem that cold at the bus stop but I’m sure the wind is blowing around downtown.

Only 43 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!

Today will be sunny, with a high of 25 degrees at 1pm. Five degrees below normal.β˜€  Blustery, with a northwest wind 15 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 59 was set in 1890. 10.4 inches of snow fell back in 2014.❄

The sun will set at 5:15 pm with dusk around 5:44 pm, which is one minute and 19 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄At sunset, look for mostly clear conditions and 22 degrees. The wind chill around sunset will be 9. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 14 mph. 💨Today will have 10 hours and 11 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 30 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers after 1am. Increasing clouds, with a low of 16 degrees at 12am.☁ Typical for tonight. Maximum wind chill around 8 at 6pm; West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming south after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2017, we had light snow in the evening, remaining overcast into the early morning. It got down to 25 degrees. The record low of -20 occurred back in 1948.

The past few days, have not been the best luck for me. Mostly just stupid shit. 💩 I forgot to set my alarm clock, so I overslept by about 15 minutes. ⏰ I’m a slow riser so I always build a little time in my schedule. I’m well rested so that’s good. 🕤 I caught the usual bus that I catch on Mondays so that worked out. Yesterday I added a time chip to my LED light fixtures but ended up wiring or all backwards twice trying to figure out why it wasn’t working. I had to move around some of the control pins :idea:so I could access the serial line but when I did it I accidentally hooked things up to pins on the same timer as the irremote so I had to unsolder and resolder them. 🔬 Getting good on soldering though. And then I broke the plexiglass on the variable message display when I was pulling the max7219 modules to see why they weren’t working properly with the new Arduino Nano that will be permanently driving that. Among other failures. But I will repair things, and I’m getting good at soldering. Practice matters!

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Presidents Day when the sun will be setting at 5:33 pm with dusk at 6:01 pm.👹 On that day in 2017, we had mostly sunny skies and temperatures between 52 and 31 degrees.β˜€ I don’t remember it being that warm cross country skiing at Rensselaerville State Forest but I’m thinking Presidents Day fell on a different calendar day that year. 😮Typically, the high temperature is 36 degrees. We hit a record high of 66 back in 1981.

Hurricanes are Good For Drinking

I don’t know if a Hurricane comes to Upstate NY, I am not buying bottled water but extra beer. I mean, who really wants to be sober during a hurricane?Β I’d rather be sitting back, watching the rain come down while drinking a cold one or two.

September 6, 2017 9 AM Update

Rain and sixty three degrees this morning as school gets underway for the rest of the youngens. The bus was running like 15 minutes, for a while I had thought I had missed the earlier bus but no, it just was the buses were delayed by school traffic and probably the wet weather to an extent. At least the rain is expected to clear out for the weekend, although certainly we aren’t in a drought after last Sunday. And who knows how wet we will get come Hurricane Irma.

The sun will set at 7:20 pm with dusk around 7:48 pm, which is one minute and 45 seconds earlier than yesterday. At sunset, look for rain and 60 degrees. The dew point will be 57 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 12 hours and 53 minutes of daytime, an decrease of 2 minutes and 49 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers likely, mainly before 4am. Cloudy, with a low of 54 degrees at 5am. One degrees below normal. Maximum dew point of 57 at 7pm. Light northwest wind. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2016, we had partly cloudy skies. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 63 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1962.

Last night I returned a bunch of cans and bottles to Hannaford. I got like $4.05 in deposits back and emptied two thirds of one of those big trash barrels by my apartment. I guess I haven’t brought back cans back in a long time and drunk a few beers up at camp. Between returning the cans, burning the burnables at camp, I should be able to avoid going to the transfer station for a while.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until 6:30 PM Sunset when the sun will be setting at 6:30 pm with dusk at 6:58 pm. On that day in 2016, we had cloudy skies and temperatures between 69 and 53 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 65 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 1891. The mercury drops quickly come autumn. I will probably head up to Moose River Plains that weekend but it depends on the weather. Fall foliage may be early this year due to the cool weather we’ve had over the past few weeks.

Stay dry and hopefully the cool but sunny forecast for the weekend will remain true.

August 28, 2017 9 AM Update

Good morning! Suddenly, with playing of the Hollies’ Bus Stop Monday’s come back around again. Next Monday is Labor Day. Catching the local bus downtown. Mostly sunny and 54 degrees in Delmar. Calm wind. The dew point is 52 degrees. Feels a bit like an autumn morning, but gosh didn’t that weekend went too quickly.

Right now, there is a lot of high clouds. Later, mostly sunny, with a high of 73 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees below normal. It seems like autumn comes too soon. Maximum dew point of 53 at 9am. Calm wind becoming southeast 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was humid. The high last year was 88 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1948.

The sun will set at 7:35 pm with dusk around 8:04 pm, which is one minute and 40 seconds earlier than yesterday. At sunset, look for partly clear conditions and 67 degrees. The dew point will be 50 degrees. There will be a southeast breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 18 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 44 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have patchy fog after 4am. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low of 51 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees below normal. Maximum dew point of 50 at 6pm. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2016, we had mostly clear skies with more clouds in the early hours of the next day. It was humid. It got down to 63 degrees. The record low of 34 occurred back in 1982.

I have no idea where the weekend went so quickly. It was a cool weekend but it went by in a flash. Next weekend is Labor Day Weekend. I’m not sure what my plans are for the weekend but if it looks decent I may head up to Moose River Plains. I will decide later in the week based on the weather.

This past weekend I was up Piseco-Powley Road. I didn’t bring my kayak and was too cold for swimming, so I went hiking. Saturday I hiked back to Spectacle Lake and Good Luck Cliffs. The later was more crowded than I would have liked. Sunday I hiked along the Edick Road Extension Trail from Piseco-Powley Road to Edick Road Campsite 1. It was a nice quiet weekend after the fast paced and crazy five days driving out to Erie, Penna for the eclipse.

They finally are repaving NY 443 out to Clarksville whose rough condition had become the butt of jokes. It’s not perfect and being just a quick repavement it’s probably going to deteriorate quickly but it’s better than nothing.

On this day in 1968, where the riots during the 1968 Democratic National Convention. Wild times back then. Despite having a president who says a lot of controversial things and a debate about honoring our country’s history, we still live in a great time of peace and prosperity. It does suck for those people who are getting soaked from the hurricane. At least it’s Texas and with the rain the country boys will be able to have great bonfires with all of the storm debris. That’s great because a lot of Texas in recent months has been under burn bans.

As previously noted, next Monday is Labor Day when the sun will be setting at 7:23 pm with dusk at 7:52 pm. On that day in 2016, we had mostly sunny skies and temperatures between 80 and 54 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 77 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1929.

China says it won’t take any more foreign garbage

China says it won’t take any more foreign garbage

"China notified the World Trade Organization (WTO) on Tuesday that it would stop accepting shipments of rubbish such as waste plastic and paper as part of a campaign against "foreign garbage"."
"The import ban, which will enter into force by the end of 2017, will also cover slag from steelmaking, and many kinds of waste wool, ash, cotton and yarn."
"We found that large amounts of dirty wastes or even hazardous wastes are mixed in the solid waste that can be used as raw materials. This polluted China's environment seriously," China's WTO filing said."
"To protect China's environmental interests and people's health, we urgently adjust the imported solid wastes list, and forbid the import of solid wastes that are highly polluted."
"China is a major importer of waste. Last year it imported 7.3 million tonnes of waste plastics, valued at $3.7 billion, accounting for 56 percent of world imports."
