Bennett Hill Preserve

This 155 acre property was a gift of Dr. Jerry Bilinski of North Chatham in 1998 to the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy. The hill towers over Clarksville, and stands only a short distance from the base of the Helderberg Escarpment. Although the top of the hill is only 400 feet above the surrounding land, it offers striking views of the Helderbergs to the north and west, and Albany to the east.

SUNY Albany

I believe the mountains peak in the background is Grass Mountain in Vermont. I could be wrong though.

New Clearing On Bennett Hill

This summer, the Land Conservancy that owns Bennett Hill cleared out a view from the top of mountain, looking mostly due North over Clarksville. It would have been nice to seen a more easterly view for Albany, but so be it.

No Fires Permitted

Now that's no fun. Of course for a good portion of the year, there is a lot of dry brush up here, and them farmers below don't want their fields burnt.

Bathtub Spring

Below that rock wall is a "spring box" that collects water that is washing down the bank of the hill, on a layer of clay. As you can see from a previous photo, it works quite effectively.
