Tonight at Sunset – July 15, 2021

Going to be sultry summer evening tonight πŸŒ‡

Heading home now on the local bus, 🚍 and then after dinner I’ll take a book πŸ“™ down to the park 🏞.

At sunset, look for partly clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 80 degrees. The dew point will be 71 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 8 mph.

We will have a Waxing Crescent πŸŒ’ Moon with 33% illuminated. At 5 PM, the moon was in the south-southeast (164°) at an altitude of 49° from the horizon, some 231,086 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. πŸš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by January 7th. Buckle up for safety! πŸ’Ί The moon will set in the west (271°) at 11:58 pm. The Buck 🦌 Moon is on Saturday, July 24. Buck yeah, that’s my summer vacation. Party all night. Just like the horney bucks.

Albany Lumberyard (1857 vs. 2017)

Near the intersection of Colonie and Water Street, under Interstate 787 near the long vacant Albany Cold Storage Building was the start of the original Erie Canal and the Albany Lumberyard, where lumber products were transferred from small boats on canal to larger vassels heading down the Hudson River.

Long since filled in with urban debris, the area is now home to Interstate 787, along with several industrial facilities and warehouses. Facilities include a DEC Warehouse with records storage, a NYS Assembly printing plant, the City of Albany maintaince garage and a now closed city landfill that was used for many years for emergency demolitions.

Zoom challenges

One of the challenges that I have with the online maps is getting the maps to look the same on different screen sizes. The solution is to set the viewport by the bounding box rather than the zoom level but that can still cause problems like leaving the map too zoomed on for a layer or in the case of the comparison layer but not always obvious how to do a scale comparison with modifying the zoom levels.
