October 22, 2019 Night

Good evening! Light rain and 52 degrees in Dormansville, NY. β˜” It’s a soft drizzle on my truck cap roof. There is a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 50 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 7 am – daybreak. Last night camping in the truck for a while – I think it’s increasingly unlikely I’ll head out of town this weekend. Warm and dry in here, it’s a pretty mild night.

I looked at the weekend forecast β˜” and I don’t think it looks good for heading out of town. Friday looks cloudy and damp and while Saturday is fine, Sunday looks like rain starting in the morning. But I think I’d rather spend time at home 🏑 doing some cleaning, trying to get of the musty smell and maybe fixing the leaky sink drain pipe. I could call the landlord but I don’t think it’s a big deal.

It’s been a long week every night πŸŒƒ driving out to the folks house after work and sleeping 😴 in my truck. It’s fine but I miss my real bed. I also have some electronics projects that I want to work on and John Wolcott has been trying to get me to come back over to work on his history project. Plus Monday is kind of a big transition at work for me so I want to be well rested for that.

Tonight will have showers. Patchy fog after 4am. 🌧 Low of 48 degrees at 6am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 27th. Southeast wind 5 to 7 mph becoming west after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 42 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1969.

Tonight will have a Waning Crescent Moon 🌘 with 21% illuminated. The moon will rise at 1:24 am. The New Moon is on Saturday night with mostly clear skies. The Beaver Moon 🌝 is on Monday, November 11th. The sun will rise at 7:17 am with the first light at 6:48 am, which is one minute and 12 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ„ Tonight will have 13 hours and 14 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 44 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers before 8am. Patchy fog before 7am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny 🌞, with a high of 58 degrees at 2pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 21st. Maximum dew point of 47 at 6am. West wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 59 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 1947. 0.5 inches of snow fell back in 2002.❄

When I got out to my parents house, I watched some YouTube videos πŸ“Ή and worked on some code. It was raining to hard to go for a walk. 🚢 I look forward to being back home once again and either taking the bus or walking around town to where I need to go.

I am definitely hoping we still have a few more weeks until snow β›„. Sure it can happen any time now but usually we don’t get much snow until after Thanksgiving and sometimes not until January so I can get out in the backwoods with Big Red.

Not going to replace my phone πŸ“± yet but it’s definitely on my radar when my phone finally stops charging or working for good. Having found my Bluetooth headphones 🎧 and having decent luck with other charging cables I’m happy with things as they are.

In four weeks on November 19 the sun will be setting at 4:30 pm (Standard Time),πŸŒ„ which is one hour, 32 minutes and 57 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had snow showers, partly cloudy and temperatures between 40 and 32 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 47 and 31 degrees. The record high of 71 degrees was set back in 1921.

Looking ahead, Election Day 2019 πŸ—³οΈ is in 2 weeks, 7:15 AM Sunrise βŒ›οΈ is in 7 weeks, Days are Getting Longer β˜€οΈ in 2 months, Christmas Eve πŸŽ… is in 9 weeks, New Years Eve πŸŽ† is in 10 weeks, Coldest Week of the Year 🌬 is in 12 weeks and Martin Luther King Day πŸ–€ is in 13 weeks.

αšΌα›’: Harald Bluetooth and Your Phone

The Jelling Stones, thousand-year-old Viking runestones, sit in the town of Jelling in Denmark. They tell the tale of Harald Bluetooth: one of the first kings of Denmark. Here's why his name is on your phone.

Color Blind Highway Superintendent

Did you know there is a way to tell if a town’s highway superintendent suffers from red-green color blindness?

Look to see if there are a lot of blue-on-white signs in a town. Color blind individuals strongly prefer those colors over green-on-white signs.

Taking a daily shower is as common as drinking a cup of morning coffee and brushing your teeth, but it’s a habit that could be worth breaking, experts say.

Some two-thirds of Americans shower every day. People say their daily showers help them wake up and keep them clean, especially following exercise or exertion or in hot and humid weather.

GLOCK 17 GEN 5

Inspecting the build quality and engineering of a Glock 17 gen 5.

Interesting to see how you can engineer a product to be very reliable out of relatively cheaply machined and manufactured materials. Reliability isn't necessarily based on a quality of material used, but the engineering that goes behind it. That said, some of the ways Ave handled that gun while dissembling it had me nervous, even if it was unloaded.

Tahawus rail line may be scrapped | News, Sports, Jobs – Adirondack Daily Enterprise

The Chicago-based rail company that owns a controversial rail line in the central Adirondacks that the state is seeking to have declared β€œabandoned” has consented to the abandonment, records show.

The New York State Attorney General’s Office submitted a letter to the U.S. Surface Transportation Board on Friday indicating that Saratoga & North Creek Railway had consented to abandonment of and interim trail use on the so-called β€œTahawus” rail line between North Creek and the hamlet of Tahawus in Newcomb.

It only took them 75 years to condemn and tear down Franklin Roosevelt's illegal railroad. Roosevelt claimed that it was necessary for the war effort, but one has to think it was more a way to give the middle finger to the preservationists and Tammany Hall, more generally.

Roosevelt wasn't a fan of the Forest Preserve concept to put it lightly. And he spent millions to sue the state into submission, appealing it all the way to the Supreme Court, when they could have built a railroad that was only about 10 miles out of the way and avoided forest preserve.
