ο»ΏOne of the problems I think there is with climate change, is it’s discussion has become fraught with self-evident truth. The assumption is that if you believe in the science of climate change, that itβs self-evident that you must believe in radical action to address it. You canβt be numb to human suffering after all, can you? Maybe so.
I am a believer in science, but at the same time, Iβm a practical person. Infrastructure take decades to evolve, and while we should do more to reduce the carbon intensity of our society, and ultimately work towards the goal of reducing emissions, I donβt think the necessary reductions to fully limit the worse impacts of climate change is even realistic. Instead of planning to do what we can do to limit the worse impacts of climate change, we should look more broadly at what we can do to reduce the harm more broadly both by reductions in emissions and adapting our infrastructure.
Many of the impacts of climate change are well studied. When we are upgrading or repairing damaged infrastructure we most certainly should look at the science and work to minimize future harm. We obviously should not be building new large coal plants, and building new renewable generation were ecologically appropriate. We should continue to improve the efficiency on new automobiles and appliances, and work to expand the electric automobile and transit fleet where practical.
Society needs a measured approach β not ignorance but also realistic goals and plans that can be adopted as we upgrade and continue to modernize our infrastructure.
That means if I do ride in today, I will not use the ice covered bike path beating the living shit out of my body and bike. My arms and knees are still sore from yesterday, but I’m well rested. I will use Corning’s Hill. I wasn’t going to ride in because it’s cold but I’m severely mentally ill, so I guess it’s best to ride in to clear out the silliness in my mind.
It’s funny when you aren’t jacked the shit out of from caffeine, how much better you sleep. β Or maybe it was the terribly rough ride in yesterday that got me feeling better. π² I heard powerful people in my office were asking questions about who is that crazy dude, who rides his mountain bike to work when it’s so f-ing cold and icy. It must be the woke mind virus, that the CDC is doing so much to fight against this morning. I’m giggling π€ while listening to There’s Anger in the Land, which like so many things on that old record were pretty opportunistic as Peter, Paul and Mary tried to remain relevant in a world that was changing much quicker then they were. Like so many Democrats, I don’t know what to say about these days, but things are changing for good or bad, only time will tell. Ten π degrees this morning which is only five degrees less than yesterday and no wind! βοΈ Lots of sun, great riding conditions!
I got listening to Peter, Paul and Mary’s Late Again album this morning. πΏ You know the one they released in late 1968, which the critics panned as their getting arrested in Chicago as a political stunt to sell more records of mediocre album, as they tried to dabble in folk psychedelia rather unsuccessfully to be cool for 1968. It was their last album before their children’s album in 1969 shortly after Peter Yarrow got arrested after the J. Edgar Hoover and company provided him with a 14-year old to masterbate in front of. Be safe, when you have a buffoon in chief in President who doesn’t like the new age folk music. That said, things changed so quickly that in era that music same that relevant in 1962 was badly outdated in six years later. I don’t think America is changing so quickly though today, despite the violent changes of the Trumpster who probably enjoys stroking you know what with Elon in the White House.
It’s funny actually after all this winter, I don’t really notice the cold. π₯ΆI had to check the temperature in my apartment this morning, I though the thermostat had been turned up as it feels much too warm, but it’s only 50 degrees. I had the heated blanket turned off this morning, as I didn’t really need it. Maybe it’s just how much my electric and gas bill is and I”m tired of winter, I’m just accepting it the way it is. I don’t know. That said, I’m totally ready for calendar spring in one month now. πΈ Not that things will necessarily green up for another seven weeks but at least come a little over two weeks we’ll have sunlight until later in the evening. Now if the ice and snow would melt off the bike trail, I could ride both ways. π² I tell ya, it really beats busing it or driving to work, not that last time I drove to work hasn’t been since I don’t know, maybe October? π
I had forgotten how much I love turmeric.π« I was cooking up sweet onions yesterday π§ and bathed them well with turmeric and other vegetables, yum, yum, yum. π This morning was Johnnycakes with onions, spinach and let’s be honest, a ton of turmeric. It’s spicy but so rich. Reminds me a bit of cheese π§ with its yellow color but without the calories and saturated fat. That said, my tongue π was yellow and so was pee this morning. And it tend to make drink a lot of water π¦ and pee a lot. πΉ But I guess it’s better than the excessive coffee habit.
