Automakers Promised Technology Would Make Roads Safer. It Hasn’t.

Earlier this week, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) released the latest road fatality statistics. It is “grim reading,” the latter being a phrase that regularly appears in news articles about American road death statistics for the past half-century. 42,915 people died while trying to get where they needed to go on U.S. roads last year. That’s 117 people on average each day, or about the number of people you can stuff into a large regional jet. One plane going down every day for an entire year

Daily Update – May 20, 2022

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday!

Made it almost to the weekend, but it’s going to be a hot one. 😎 Mostly cloudy and 59 degrees to start out the day, but come later looking at peaks of sunshine with a high of around 84 degrees. Not bad when the climate normal for this time of year is 73 degrees.

But the real story of the heat comes tomorrow just in time for the Lupine Festival πŸ¦‹ where it might reach 94 degrees or even higher 🌑shattering the record, as what looks like to be start of a very hot summer, or maybe not depending on who you ask. Back to reality come Monday though, with temperatures only in the 70s to start the work week.

Yesterday, I brought a book down to the park πŸ“– and read for a while before going for a nature walk. It was surprising cool evening, but this evening should be much more warmer. I have to go over to Lynne’s house and get the supplies for the lupine festival, and then go to the grocery store πŸ›’ as I keep putting this off. But it is going to be a hot evening, so I figure get out and enjoy the air conditioning in my truck.
