The wilderness I choose to live in…
Many people where I work think it’s odd that I take public transit to work🚌, which it can be a pain on the late nights at work when I have wait for the next bus to come. I just hate driving in the city and with my big jacked up truck I’d never fit in the garage. I’d rather just play on the phone when the driver takes me to work.
I don’t have air conditioning at home, preferring to go down to the park with a book 📚 and sit out back until late in the evening. I guess not having air conditioning is different in the modern era.
But then again I also refuse to have internet at home because💻 its an unnecessary expense and I can either walk down to the park or the library and use my laptop to get on the internet for free. I guess that is a bit odd in the modern era.
I’ve also never owned a television, although for a short while I had a cheap HDTV tuner that worked until it broke. 📺But I never really used it much and only watched non commercial programming like the PBS Newshour – which I ended up watching less and less when their primary cause became pushing gun control. Most television is a stupid waste of time and advertising is so obnoxious.
I don’t really follow contemporary culture and politics. 🔌For my job I do read my clients newspapers but I rarely read the local news. I couldn’t tell you ninty percent of what is happening in the local news. I guess I don’t really care at this point as most things are beyond my control. Sometimes I listen to NPR but less and less when every story seems to be about attacking the president or pushing a left wing agenda. 📻 I guess I do check NPR.org a few times a week and listen to podcasts so I’m not totally disconnected.
Music wise I don’t really follow what is contemporary, probably the average date of music on my phone is 1968 or about a half century old. 🎤 The music my parents listened to college. I do listen to country music but rarely on the radio, and while my share of Jason Aldean records on my phone, I do also listen to a lot of Merle Haggard and Dave Dudley.
I’m just not really into contemporary culture or what is popular today. I think it’s too loud and commercial, it’s too offensive and explicit.📢 I’m perfectly happy to live in the wildernessβΊ that I choose to live in.

Daily Update – April 16, 2022
Good morning! No rain yet, we but we know what’s coming. β
Maybe we won’t get as much rain as up north, and no snow but it is hardly going to be a banner day. I do hope to do some hiking at Hollyhock or maybe Blodgett Hill.
Clouds and 50 degrees in Delmar, NY. βοΈ There is a southeast breeze at 6 mph. π. The skies will clear around 11 pm. Then cold and windy tomorrow for Easter with clouds.
What can I say, Easter might be late π° but that’s not guarantee of nice weather. I have a family obligation next weekend so I can’t get out of town, but maybe the following weekend I’m hoping. π The thing is at this point the weather is only going to get warmer and nicer, although that also means the black flies will be awakening soon π and I want to get at least one spring weekend in the Adirondacks before the black flies are out.
I am heading to the transfer station to drop off my recyclables β»οΈ and be green and things like that. I’ve sorted out everything carefully, put a nice bow on it, have my $6 ready, and will put everything in the proper dumpsters to be green. As dubious as I may be about it all, I really needed to empty my trash cans π₯« of metals and glass so might as well recycle plastics too.
I am hoping that the rain will hold off for a few hours, π§ so I can enjoy a few hours in the woods π¦ looking at the birds and enjoying the spring time weather, although I think sun will be hard to come by. But still Hollyhock is nice. I might do Blodgett Hill, it’s a much more vigorous hike, but it’s sort of out of the way compared to Hollyhock which is just down the road form the transfer station.
Yesterday I sanded and primed my truck. Next time I have a nice weekend I’ll sand the primer down with fine grain sand paper then use the duplicate color to cover it. π» Doesn’t have to perfect but I want to slow the growth of the rust holes. That said, the areas I worked on last year really did stop the cancer β in its tracks. Rust belt life sucks.
I spent most of the evening and night π reading a library book about Javascript. I’ve been using that language on and off since high school to build my blog π but my knowledge is pretty vague of modern Javascript and the techniques widely used today with nodejs.
I should have gone for my walk πΆ yesterday as it was a pretty nice day but in the evening it got dark and cloudy β and painting the truck, sorting recyclables β» and reading π took the balance of the day. I still do pretty good most days for walking and I expect I will close out the month of April averaging more than 10,000 steps per day. π£
