Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. That always seems to happen after Sunday. Darn calendars. Next Monday is Ides of March β . Better watch out for those friendly strangers in the black sedans. After all they have pictures and candy, and they are lovable mans. Sunny and 21 degrees in Delmar, NY. π There is a north-northwest breeze at 6 mph. π. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. β Things will start to thaw out at around noontime. π‘οΈ
Nice sunny π morning for the morning walk πΆπ». A bit chilly but the sun helps. Looking forward to weather in the sixties come mid week. A bit of a spring warm up then going to be cool it looks to start calendar π spring πΈ. My hands ππ» were a bit cold when I started the walk. π¦ Birds are chirping and it’s quite nice.
Got a bit of slow start to this morning, as I took a sleeping pill or two before bed, and slept very soundly well into bright sun of the morning. The sun is definitely higher in the sky and getting started earlier, although next Sunday we set the clocks ahead an hour, which gives us more sun in the evening. I am looking forward to evenings in park come nicer weather.
Today will be sunny π, with a high of 38 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 28th. Northwest wind 6 to 8 mph. A year ago, we had sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 59 degrees. The record high of 68 was set in 2012. 6.5 inches of snow fell back in 2013.β
Not real cold today, but hardly a day that is going to feel like a sweat lodge outside. We can though dream of nicer weather, as 38 degrees will feel nice, but nothing like what is coming down in the pike later in the week. Maybe 60 degrees if we are very optimistic for Wednesday or Thursday, although I will take 50 degrees and sunny. Not that the cold is going to last that much longer — even if the second half of March is relatively cold, that means many days in the low 40s at least. Remember by early April and start of trout fishing weather we are looking at many days in 50s.
Solar noon π is at 12:07 pm with sun having an altitude of 42.6Β° from the due south horizon (-28.2Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour π
starts at 5:16 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (258Β°). πΈ The sunset is in the west (265Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:54 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 6:21 pm, which is one minute and 12 seconds later than yesterday. π The best time to look at the stars is after 6:55 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies π and temperatures around 37 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 35 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.
A couple of my library books are due on Wednesday, so I will return them maybe today or tomorrow. I think I’ll just walk down to the library. All week looks pretty nice. I guess if it’s warm enough on Tuesday, I could just walk down to the library and sit down on park bench with my laptop, although I think the best weather is Wednesday into Thursday.
Tonight will be mostly cloudy π₯, with a low of 29 degrees at 10pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 24th. South wind 6 to 8 mph. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 43 degrees. The record low of -14 occurred back in 1943.
In 1965, Thirty-five hundred United States Marines are the first American land combat forces committed during the Vietnam War. πͺ The escalation of a disastrous war, partly based on lies, that would rumble on for a good part of a decade and change America’s perception of government and experts more generally for a generation.
A picture perfect weekend on tap. π Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 44. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 38. Typical average high for the weekend is 43 degrees. Yes, I really want to get up north next weekend if possible. This might be the weekend to do it. Up north it will be closer to freezing, so not so much mud and slop, but also a lot less snow to deal with after this week. Maybe not perfect Saturday morning but it looks like the evening should be real nice for late winter camping. I thought about Schoharie County, which might be snow free by then but it would be pretty sloppy in the woods.
πΉπ»πΌOnly 12 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!πΉπ»πΌA week from Saturday. The black flies are in waiting.
As previously noted, next Monday is Ides of March β when the sun will be setting at 7:01 pm with dusk at 7:29 pm (Daylight Savings Time).
