Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Back to work, from home, after the long weekend. I am glad as the weather is super shitty this morning. Pretty and I have power, but everything outside glimmers with a sheet of ice. Two weeks to Read Across America Day π . Freezing rain and 32 degrees in Delmar, NY. β There is a north breeze at 6 mph. π. There are 4 inches of snow on the ground. β οΈThings will start to thaw out at around 9 am. π‘οΈ Pretty morning with all the ice on the trees.
No morning walk today. I’ve bad and been skipping my morning and evening walks the past few days, because the weather has been kind of bad and depressing. Plus I’ve been doing a lot of reading and working on various projects. Yesterday, the weather was just so cloudy and depressing and it was nice and warm sitting next to the heater. Maybe it’s all my fault for deciding my heating bill was reasonable last month. Did you see the 8-14 day forecast is calling for warmer weather?
Blueberry pancakes for breakfast today. They were pretty good, but so was the coffee. I am making good work of the 4-lb bag wild blueberries that I bought last week. I got a pretty good price on them, and they are pretty healthy. But frozen fruit is quite affordable, comes with a lot less packaging then a lot of the junk food that is so popular these days. Fresh fruit might taste slightly better, but it’s so much more expense and waste. My budget is always so tight too.
Today will rain, freezing rain, and sleet likely before 2pm, then a slight chance of drizzle between 2pm and 4pm, then a slight chance of rain after 4pm. Mostly cloudy π¦, with a high of 41 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 7th. North wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. Total daytime sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 38 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 2006. 17.3 inches of snow fell back in 1958.β
Honestly, my sights are pretty low for today. Stay inside, count the days down until spring. I am hoping later today that things will warm up enough to melt the icy sidewalks. If it’s not pouring rain out this evening, I really should plan on doing my evening walk. I am hoping to clean the ice off my truck later on today. If I had downtime today, I want to look through some of the ARC GIS servers list that I shared yesterday and maybe add them to the blog mapping software. I also have an idea on how to fix one of the speed bugs I’ve been having with the mobile version of the interactive maps.
Solar noon π is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 35.2Β° from the due south horizon (-35.6Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 8.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour π
starts at 4:50 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (248Β°). πΈ The sunset is in the west-southwest (254Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:29 pm after setting for 3 minutes with dusk around 5:57 pm, which is one minute and 18 seconds later than yesterday. π At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter π Moon in the southwest (225Β°) at an altitude of 46Β° from the horizon, 251,736 miles away. π The best time to look at the stars is after 6:31 pm. At sunset, look for rain showers π§ and temperatures around 37 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 38 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 43 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will have a slight chance of rain and snow showers before 7pm, then a slight chance of snow showers between 7pm and 8pm. Partly cloudy π§, with a low of 18 degrees at 5am. Typical for tonight. Northwest wind 10 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2020, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 25 degrees. The record low of -16 occurred back in 1973.
Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. π Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 27. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 30. Typical average high for the weekend is 36 degrees. With the clouds expected, I don’t think I’ll be heading up to the Adirondacks, although it’s trending warmer. At one point I thought next weekend might be a good one to head north.
πΉπ»πΌOnly 32 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!πΉπ»πΌ
As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Read Across America Day π when the sun will be setting at 5:46 pm with dusk at 6:14 pm.
