Good morning! Happy Inauguration Day ๐ด ! Unless of course you supported the other guy. But it’s Biden this Time, and if you don’t like that just wait 4 to 8 years. Maybe he’ll legalize pot, so we can be one toke over the line legally. ๐ฌ Four weeks to 5:30 PM Sunset ๐ . Snow flurries and 25 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ Calm wind. There is a fresh dusting of snow on the ground. โ Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 2 pm as it’s going to be cold and breezy especially by the afternoon. ๐ก๏ธ
With the sun โ breaking through the clouds and snow flurries and not super cold it’s hard to complain about the morning walk ๐ถ๐ป. I got milk ๐ฅ yesterday and I had a good breakfast of eggs ๐ณ with ham and peppers. ๐ Traffic is very light today, I wonder if even more people are working from home today to avoid protest delays. Air kind of has the taste of barnyard as I walk past the Sunnyside Farm. ๐
Yesterday wasn’t too bad day, I ended up working down at the library ๐ for a good part of the day because it wasn’t that cold and there was enough sun for the solar. ๐ป I finally got all the system updates installed on M$ Winders 10, and got my request form in for the VPN. ๐ก๐ถ That should make people happy, and it will mean fewer trips on the bus ๐ or asking colleagues to get files off the server. ๐It took forever to load those updates. Linux is so much faster at upgrading, although granted it can be a pain too if you have to upgrade through multiple versions that break the C library requiring reboots to keep programs from acting really odd when symbol tables don’t match up. ๐ก I’m sure that is what some of those delays were, but it also seems like Windows updates are particularly slow. ๐ข You know, I prefer to Linux. ๐ง But I should have a secure, reliable Winders box when I need that for work. โน I also watched the Gubernators’ State of Budget Address, ๐ worked on some 3D maps for the blog ๐บ and a few tweaks to the campsite map that I made up.๐ Did my evening walk ๐ถ๐ป
Today will have a chance of snow showers, mainly before noon. Partly sunny ๐ฆ, with a high of 31 degrees at 12pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around January 23rd. Light southwest wind becoming northwest 12 to 17 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with sunny skies in the afternoon. The high last year was 22 degrees. The record high of 53 was set in 2006. 10.4 inches of snow fell back in 2019.โ
I haven’t decided if I will listen ๐๐ป to the new president’s speech today, although I listened to the BBC and Morning Edition ๐ป for a while so I have an idea of what the political class is talking about today. Honestly, I think following politics too closely is unhealthy for your mental health. ๐คช I’d rather operate on a need to know basis and catch the recap on NPR.org or the hourly news bulletin on the radio. Session is at the same time so I might be too busy.
Solar noon ๐ is at 12:07 pm with sun having an altitude of 27.3ยฐ from the due south horizon (-43.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐
starts at 4:11 pm with the sun in the southwest (236ยฐ). ๐ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (243ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:54 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 16 seconds with dusk around 5:24 pm, which is one minute and 14 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ Moon in the south-southeast (166ยฐ) at an altitude of 55ยฐ from the horizon, 252,091 miles away. ๐ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:59 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ and temperatures around 26 degrees. The wind chill around sunset will be 13. โ๏ธ Breezy, 17 mph breeze โ
from the west-northwest with gusts up to 30mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 36 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 58 seconds over today.
Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ฅ, with a low of 12 degrees at 12am. Two degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around 8 at 8pm; Northwest wind 6 to 11 mph becoming light and variable. Honestly, not that bad all things considered. In 2020, we had clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 7 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1994.
Cool this weekend with temperatures running 9 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. ๐ Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 22. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 22. Typical average high for the weekend is 31 degrees. It seems like some of the winter weather, which so far has been retarded, it going to started to push into the area. Cool but not that unusually cold for January. I certainly remember much cold January days and certainly February might be colder. But let’s hope not, I don’t like paying a shit ton for heat, โจ especially while working from home.
๐น๐ป๐ผOnly 59 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!๐น๐ป๐ผ That’s one less then sixty. One day closer. Countdown in process. It seems like 4 years of the Trumpster came and went in the blink of the eye, ๐ so maybe it means that summer and the black flies will be with us, at least after all the mud, muck and slop everywhere. I can already smell pungent Madison County ๐ฎ and doing some good ol’ trout fishing ๐ฃ come April 1st. Which is a Thursday this year.
As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Clean Your Computer Day ๐งน when the sun will be setting at 5:21 pm with dusk at 5:50 pm. On that day in 2020, we had snow showers, cloudy, mild and temperatures between 41 and 32 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. We hit a record high of 53 back in 1955.
