Costco, at what cost? – Albany Times Union, 11/25/2020

State Supreme Court Justice Peter Lynch was unsparing when he ruled last week that the environmental review of apartments and a Costco store proposed for Guilderland was far from thorough.

Judge Lynch, in a highly detailed 77-page ruling on a lawsuit brought by town residents, knocked the developer, Pyramid Management Group, for keeping its plans for the massive new development a secret, and criticized the Guilderland Town Planning Board for cutting corners as it undertook the state Environmental Quality Review Act process

Catskills at Sunset

With the pandemic smoldering all around us and social distancing requirements it's rare that I get to spend much time in the office. But when I do there sure are some pretty sunsets from the skyscraper.

How Joe Biden Might Try To Make Masks A Less Partisan Issue

"Wearing one of these masks when you're outside is not a partisan issue," Biden said a couple of days later during a livestreamed event. "It is a matter of protecting other people." New guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also indicates it protects the wearer of the mask as well.

I am really happy with the mask that I got from Lynne Jackson. That said, the safest thing is not to have to wear a mask by social distancing.

CDC Likely To Recommend Shortening Coronavirus Quarantine Period : Coronavirus Updates : NPR

Federal health officials are likely to shorten their recommendation for how long people should quarantine to reduce the risk of spreading the coronavirus from the current 14 days to as few as seven.

Current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations call for two weeks of isolation from the last contact with a person known to have COVID-19. However, Adm. Brett Giroir, a member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, said Tuesday that health officials were rethinking that recommendation, citing "a preponderance of evidence that a shorter quarantine complemented by a test might be able to shorten that quarantine period."

November 25, 2020 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? πŸ¦ƒ The Wednesday before Thanksgiving in the year of the Corona for President πŸ‘Ύ, of course. πŸ— Two weeks to Earliest Sunset of the Year βŒ›οΈ. Mostly cloudy and around the freezing point in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a south-southeast breeze at 8 mph. πŸƒ. The skies will clear Saturday around noontime.

Cool and gray morning for my walk. 🚢🏻 Today I plan to work primarily from home 🏑, using my phone πŸ“± and transferring files πŸ“‚ over as necessary. I expect a fairly quiet day as it’s the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. πŸ¦ƒ Who knows, maybe a project will come, it’s not like I can be at the beach πŸ– not doing work although I did spend some time at the beach last summer with the laptop doing work.

Yesterday I had to go downtown 🏒 and work from the office. I had some paperwork to do and a socially distanced meeting. πŸŒ‡ The sunset from my office was really nice. I didn’t get over to John Wolcott’s πŸ”Ž he had something come up so I went home. 🚍 Rush hour these days isn’t bad, and even the bus ws quite empty although I did swap seats πŸ’Ί when somebody moved a row too close. I also did my evening walk 🚢🏻 which was quite pleasant. Cranked the heat up when I got home but turned it down before bed πŸ› and it’s been mild enough that it’s fine.

Today will be mostly cloudy πŸŒ₯, with a high of 46 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 21st. South wind 8 to 13 mph. A year ago, we had light drizzle in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 50 degrees. The record high of 64 was set in 2004. 21.8 inches of snow fell back in 1971.❄ That’s a shit ton of snow.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 11:44 am with sun having an altitude of 26.5Β° from the due south horizon (-44.3Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 12 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 3:43 pm with the sun in the southwest (234Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-southwest (242Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:27 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 18 seconds with dusk around 4:56 pm, which is 33 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous πŸŒ” Moon in the east-southeast (114Β°) at an altitude of 26Β° from the horizon, 251,372 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:32 pm. At sunset, look for cloudy skies ☁ and temperatures around 46 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 25 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 43 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain likely, mainly after 1am. Cloudy 🌧, with a low of 42 degrees at 10pm. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 9th. South wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2019, we had mist in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 34 degrees. The record low of -11 occurred back in 1938.

A picture perfect by November standards weekend on tap. 😎 Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 46. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 47. Typical average high for the weekend is 43 degrees.

Friday I’m heading up to the Adirondacks πŸ”οΈ. No big plans, just some camping for a few days. β›Ί I will get groceries on my way up there. πŸ›’ I was going to get some books πŸ“š from the library but I got busy and never finished looking at the card catalog.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Earliest Sunset of the Year βŒ›οΈ when the sun will be setting at 4:21 pm with dusk at 4:53 pm. On that day in 2019, we had rain showers, cloudy and temperatures between 47 and 37 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 38 degrees. We hit a record high of 62 back in 1966.
