November 16, 2020 Morning
Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Two weeks to Cyber Monday ποΈ and Beaver Moon π. Partly sunny and 46 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a southwest breeze at 10 mph. π. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 3 am. βοΈ
Remarkably mild out there this morning as the clouds push out from last night’s rain β. Blustery though with the wind. π But it should be a relatively nice day. I turned on the heat last night and it is nice and comfortable at home.
This morning I have to drop my truck off for the state inspection. π Hopefully that will go fine and I can pick it up at lunch time. Good excuse for for a walk and some exercise. πΆπ»I was told they still don’t have stickers but are hopeful that they will have them by lunch time. I also need to get my registration sticker on the truck.
Today will be mostly sunny π, with a high of 46 degrees at 6am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 20th. West wind 10 to 15 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 38 degrees. The record high of 71 was set in 2006. 3.4 inches of snow fell back in 2002.β
Solar noon π is at 11:41 am with sun having an altitude of 28.5Β° from the due south horizon (-42.3Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour π starts at 3:50 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (238Β°). πΈ The sunset is in the west-southwest (245Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:33 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 12 seconds with dusk around 5:02 pm, which is 52 seconds earlier than yesterday. π At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent π Moon in the southwest (231Β°) at an altitude of 7Β° from the horizon, 229,476 miles away. π The best time to look at the stars is after 5:38 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies π and temperatures around 44 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 42 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 7 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will have a slight chance of snow after 4am. Partly cloudy π¨, with a low of 32 degrees at 4am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 15th. West wind 5 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 17 degrees. The record low of 7 occurred back in 1972.
A picture perfect weekend on tap. π Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 52. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 54. Typical average high for the weekend is 46 degrees.
Other forecasts aren’t so optimistic – they are suggesting more clouds β so I’m not planning anything until after Thanksgiving. I would like to do one more weekend trip before winter and it seems like for now the snow π¨ is likely going to be held off by warm weather.
I am starting to research home internet options π» as I’m thinking this winter may be a lot of remote work and with the library closed I don’t think it will be practical to work from my truck in January. I am thinking I might be able to get a cheaper phone plan if I don’t need as much data and it would kind of nice to get files π and stuff I need without having to walk down to the library all of the time.
As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Cyber Monday ποΈ and Beaver Moon π when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:54 pm. On that day in 2019, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 33 and 19 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 42 degrees. We hit a record high of 67 back in 1933.
Not a fish eater and not a cat. What’s in a name? – The Adirondack Almanack
The male and female fisher have comparable appearances and overall coloration, but the male is much larger, varying from 35 to 47 inches in length and ranging between eight and thirteen pounds. The female is generally between 30 and 37 inches in length and weighs from four to six pounds. Their dense, soft fur make them very popular and profitable targets for trappers. Their coats vary in color from dark chocolate brown to a deep black in winter, lightening considerably in the summer, making winter the prime season for trapping. The thickness of the fur coat also varies with the season, with the winter coat being the densest, and therefore most sought after.
The attractiveness and value of fisher pelts for the fur trade contributed to a decline in the fisher’s range and numbers, which, together with the felling of pine forests for farming and then the subsequent expansion of housing, sped the fisher’s decline. However, thanks to a gradual shift of human populations from rural farmland to cities and suburbs in the late 1800s into the 1900s,second and third growth forests began to fill in once-tilled farmland, maturing over the years. Together with the imposition of carefully monitored trapping seasons and limits, the fisher has now reoccupied its original range and numbers continue to grow.

Opponents questioned her views on monetary policy — which seem to shift depending on which party controls the White House — as well as her unorthodox support for the gold standard, a theory long discarded by mainstream economists.
In the aftermath of the 2008 global financial crisis, Shelton criticized the Fed for keeping interest rates low. But she changed course abruptly once President Trump was in office, backing his call for even lower interest rates.
