September 19, 2020 Night

Good evening! Clear and 42 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌌 Calm wind. Another very cold night on tap.

Today was a nice day, πŸŒ²πŸ›πŸΈπŸ¦‹πŸ¦† doing some hiking and poking around the Pine Bush. I wanted to go to Black Creek Marsh but I didn’t get a very early start as I got listening to the news πŸ“° and then I ended up working on some code for my blog.

Tonight will have patchy frost after 5am. Otherwise, increasing clouds πŸŒƒ, with a low of 36 degrees at 4am. 14 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 27th. Calm wind. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 42 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1979.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent πŸŒ’ Moon with 9% illuminated. The Hunter 🏹 Moon is on Thursday, October 1. The darkest hour is at 12:50 am, followed by dawn at 6:13 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:41 am in the east (88Β°) and last for 2 minutes and 54 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 5 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:18 am with sun in the east (94Β°). Tonight will have 11 hours and 43 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have patchy frost before 8am. Otherwise, partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny 🌞, with a high of 59 degrees at 2pm. 12 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 17th. Calm wind becoming north 5 to 8 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1946.

I am thinking about getting up fairly early and doing some bird watching 🐦 at Black Creek Marsh Wildlife Management Area in the morning. πŸŒ… I haven’t been there since spring and it’s nice. I was going to do that this morning and then last night but I didn’t get an early start.

Still dealing with really gross socks 🧦. I’m hopeful this time with soaking them they’ll get nice and clean. I will rinse them out come morning.

Got my new mask from Lynne Jackson. 😷 I will still wear the bandana when I’m out and about but when I’m working downtown it’s better to have something cooler and more comfortable.

In four weeks on October 17 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (258Β°) at 6:09 pm,πŸŒ„ which is 48 minutes and 4 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had rain and temperatures between 52 and 46 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 59 and 39 degrees. The record high of 85 degrees was set back in 1947.

Back out walking along Rapp Road today talking about the old Pig Farm 🐽

People back in the day might not have thought much of the infertile and rather remote land out that way but raising pigs is a great way to bring nutrients to the land and tear up the soil. Good thing to think about when sometime you might have land up in the mountains where the soil has eroded away. Especially when you are trying to rebuild land, pigs have a good place in your operation.
