The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has asked states to prepare to distribute a potential coronavirus vaccine as soon as late October, according to a series of planning documents sent to public health officials last week.
A CDC spokesperson confirmed the authenticity of the documents in an email to NPR on Wednesday. The documents were first published by the New York Times.

The pandemic is taking a big toll on the government's bottom line.
The federal government's accumulated debt burden is projected to be larger than the overall economy next year for the first time since 1946. Debt is expected to reach an all-time high of 107% of gross domestic product in 2023.
The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office expects the deficit to reach $3.3 trillion in the fiscal year ending this month. That's about 16% of GDP — a level not seen since the end of World War II in 1945.
September 2, 2020 Morning
Good morning! Happy Corn Moon π! Rain showers and 66 degrees in Delmar, NY. β There is a south-southeast breeze at 8 mph. π. The dew point is 62 degrees.
Another rather dreary day βοΈ and then we have a long stretch of nice weather ahead. βοΈGoing to be a nice weekend so I’m heading up to Vermont I think tomorrow after work will do the remote work thing from there for a while. Going to be fairly cool so I’m hoping I can leave with ice I have and maybe get coffee creamer for once the ice runs out because it’s a pain to run to town from there. π₯ I thought about leaving today or tomorrow before work to ensure that I can get a campsite with good cell service and solar for power. π
Today will have showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after noon. Mostly cloudy π¦, with a high of 71 degrees at 1pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 18th. Maximum dew point of 70 at 4pm. South wind 8 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It became sticky as the day progressed. The high last year was 76 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1953.
I plan to start packing πΌ as time allows today and will go shopping π tonight for food and supplies. I don’t need a lot but I want to have enough to eat for at Five nights, with the last two with minimal ice in the cooler. Not going to be real hot so the ice should last longer this time. I am thinking I will bring the propane heater β¨οΈ to warm my hands ππ» because some of the mornings might be chilly.
Solar noon π is at 12:56 pm with sun having an altitude of 55.1Β° from the due south horizon (-15.7Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour π starts at 6:52 pm with the sun in the west (275Β°). πΈ The sunset is in the west-northwest (281Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:29 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 57 seconds with dusk around 7:56 pm, which is one minute and 43 seconds earlier than yesterday. π The best time to look at the stars is after 8:33 pm. At sunset, look for thunderstorms π© and temperatures around 71 degrees. The dew point will be 69 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 5 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will have showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before midnight, then scattered showers. Mostly cloudy π§, with a low of 63 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 70 at 6pm. South wind 5 to 8 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 55 degrees. The record low of 39 occurred back in 1976.
A picture perfect weekend on tap. π Saturday, sunny, with a high near 73. Maximum dew point of 53 at 8am. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 76. Maximum dew point of 54 at 10am. Typical average high for the weekend is 76 degrees.
Yes, I would say it looks like a very nice weekend to end summer. π¦ Not super warm but sunny. I am sure in some places in the mountains we will be starting to see colors popping up. π Looking forward to a few days in the woods although I do actually think some of the autumn trips I’m planning will be even more fun. No Moose River Plains this year though because I need cellphone reception for work. I do like the idea of spending some time in Central NY where I can run to libraries for the Zoom Meetings and anytime I need a lot of bandwidth for work.
I got my first bigger paycheck yesterday. π°The money is nice but it’s actually not that much when I figure in retirement and taxes. Probably going to invest or save virtually all of it because I don’t need more garbage to have to pay to get of at the transfer station π. It’s more fun to watch my investments and savings grow β and look at off-grid properties on Facebook then spend the money. I just find there is too much stuff today and for most things the less you have the happier π you are as everything you buy always breaking down. π οΈ
One month π from now, the Average High is 65 π when the sun will be setting at 6:34 pm with dusk at 7:02 pm.
