J.C. Penney Bankruptcy: Coronavirus Lockdowns Take Their Toll On Retailers : Coronavirus Live Updates : NPR

But like many malls across the country, J.C. Penney has been struggling for some time. The coronavirus lockdowns finally took the department store over the brink. The company said Friday that it's filing for bankruptcy and plans to close some of its stores "in phases," the timing and scale of which will be disclosed "in coming weeks."

Darn, I've always gone there for work clothes including suit jackets and lately dress shirts now that Sears is closed.

Congress has a lot of power to dictate policy to the states especially when money is involved. Many states are seeking a bailout for economic and tax revenue losses sustained in the shutdowns of communities. This is a perfect opportunity to tie in reopening requirements and mandates to reduce the spread of Coronavirus.

If a state wants to receive funding, they would be required to reopen as much as possible and also show a sustained decline in infections. They might be able to do this by increased cleaning and disinfection, more support for modest social distancing measured while resuming as much life as possible. It would force states to be creative, not drag their feets on reopening the economy while requiring them to take alternative steps to mitigate and prevent the spread of the disease.

May 16, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Average High is 70 🐮! Next Saturday is Memorial Day Weekend Starts 🏕️. Partly cloudy and 56 degrees in Delmar, NY. ⛅ There is a northwest breeze at 13 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 50 degrees. Breezy but sunny and clear this morning. Going to be a beautiful day.

Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 71 degrees at 4pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 20th. Maximum dew point of 51 at 8am. I’ll take that. Much less muggy than last night. Northwest wind 7 to 13 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 69 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1991.

I am going to go hiking and wildlife observation 🐦 in the back part of Thacher Park today. Should be a really nice day assuming it’s not too cloudy. I think it’s been dry out enough the ground has had a chance to dry out a lot. I know the trails and places that are less popular and I’ll wear a banada over my face and keep distance for social distancing. 👤

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 66.6° from the due south horizon (-4.2° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.6 foot shadow today at solar noon compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 7:32 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (291°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-northwest (298°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:13 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 15 seconds with dusk around 8:44 pm, which is one minute and 2 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 9:26 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 65 degrees. The dew point will be 49 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 40 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and one second over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 49 degrees at 6am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 21st. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 52 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1959.

I bought a fuse box to connect up the various wires 🔌 in the cab of my truck. Currently I am distributing power in the cab of my truck using a series of crimped connectors Y-ed out but I’ve noticed some of the connectors are not tight enough and there is voltage drop and heat which is a fire 🔥 risk and waste electricity. I was originally thinking of getting just a bus bar but I saw a fuse box with bus bar for the ground that would work perfectly for my purposes.

As previously noted, next Saturday the Memorial Day Weekend Starts 😊 when the sun will be setting at 8:19 pm with dusk at 8:52 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 72 and 56 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 72 degrees. We hit a record high of 93 back in 1964.
