After a decade that reshaped the park, DEC regional director Bob Stegemann retires – Adirondack Explorer
The timing of his tenure as Region 5 director for the Department of Environmental Conservation is not lost on Robert Stegemann. “I came in with Hurricane Irene and I’m going out with the coronavirus,” he said.
But in between it was quite a run, a decade that is likely to be noted as among the most significant in Adirondack history. Region 5 covers northeastern New York, including the heart of the Adirondack Park.
Gun Control Orgs Panic As FBI Data Shows Historic Surge in Civilian Gun Ownership – The Truth About Guns
The FBI’s March NICS background data for march was released yesterday and it was every bit as horrific as the Civilian Disarmament Industrial Complex feared it would be.
The adjusted background check data quantified what we’ve all seen in the photos of Americans lining up — sometimes for hours — outside of gun stores all across the country.
Clearing Skies
I think Coronavirus is increasingly being used to say the most vile bigoted things under the name of public health.
I think Coronavirus is increasingly being used to say the most vile and bigoted things under the name of public health.
Times like this are when fascism comes to the front, where people support dictators and totalitarian leaders – even though what we really need is more treason, defending the right of citizens to speak their minds and live their lives.
April 2, 2020 Morning
Good morning! Happy Thursday. Five weeks to Flower Moon π. By then things will have greened up a lot. Mostly cloudy and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. β There is a north-northwest breeze at 8 mph. π. The skies will clear Saturday around 3 pm.
Today will be mostly cloudy π₯, with a high of 50 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 29th. North wind 8 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Kind of another cold and gray day out. β But spring is definitely coming. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 53 degrees. The record high of 77 was set in 2010. 8 inches of snow fell back in 1924.β
Solar noon π is at 12:59 pm with sun having an altitude of 52.5Β° from the due south horizon (-18.3Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. Sun is getting much higher in the sky now. The golden hour π starts at 6:46 pm with the sun in the west (272Β°). πΈ The sunset is in the west (278Β°) starting at 7:20 pm and lasts for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 7:51 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. π At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous π Moon in the south-southeast (148Β°) at an altitude of 67Β° from the horizon, 232,170 miles away. π The best time to look at the stars is after 8:26 pm. At sunset, look for rain π§ and temperatures around 46 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 14 mph with gusts up to 24mph. Today will have 12 hours and 48 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will have a chance of rain, mainly after 8pm. Cloudy π§, with a low of 40 degrees at 1am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 22nd. Northwest wind 9 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. That said, I’m looking forward to nice summer nights sitting out back. π Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of 16 occurred back in 1954.
Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. π Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 55. Calm wind. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 60. Typical average high for the weekend is 53 degrees.
Honestly I don’t think this weekend will be pretty nice. β I do need to get to the store π¬, gas up β½ and do laundry. ππ I really like Aldi, it’s so fast and easy out which is good during the pandemic. What else to do? If it’s really nice on Sunday, hike at Partridge Run? Maybe a similar route to two weeks ago but maybe further back on some of the roads in the back section? Probably want to stay off trails as they are going to be real muddy. π½ Then probably Thursday leave for the Adirondacks if the weather is good.
I still want to get the alignment issue looked into my truck, I’m going to decide on Friday if I should do it now π§or wait for the pandemic to be over – my concern is that may be a while and when it’s over the shop may be very backed up. But who knows, they might not be open now.
Looking ahead, there are 5 weeks until Flower Moon π when the sun will be setting at 8:02 pm with dusk at 8:34 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 66 and 49 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 67 degrees. We hit a record high of 92 back in 1930.
