March 24, 2020 Morning
Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Two weeks to 7:30 PM Sunset π. Cloudy with a few breaks of sun and 33 degrees with things melted in Delmar, NY. I am β There is a northwest breeze at 7 mph. π. There are 5 inches of snow on the ground. β A lot more snow then I expected. Maybe though less than at the airport. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 1 am. βοΈ
I don’t know about you but I was a bit surprised about the amount of snow we got. β I thought it would be too warm for much to accumulate. I think there is quite a bit of salt on the roads which sucks because the car wash businesses are closed unless it can be determined they’re essential employees. I got my truck dug out and the solar panel cleaned off earlier so that the batteries will stay topped off. Snow cleaned off the truck pretty easily.
This morning I’m going to start working from home but I expect I’ll need some files π and will need to run down to the library parking lot to get them later on. But with the sun β I expect to be comfortable and able to work all day without worrying if the battery voltage is dropping. π
Today will have a slight chance of flurries before 9am. Partly sunny , with a high of 47 degrees at 3pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 23rd. Northwest wind around 8 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 57 degrees. The record high of 69 was set in 1976. 5.5 inches of snow fell back in 1956.β
Solar noon π is at 1:02 pm with sun having an altitude of 49Β° from the due south horizon (-21.8Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour π starts at 6:36 pm with the sun in the west (267Β°). πΈ The sunset is in the west (273Β°) starting at 7:10 pm and lasts for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:40 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. π The best time to look at the stars is after 8:14 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies π and temperatures around 43 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 22 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 55 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will be partly cloudy π€, with a low of 28 degrees at 6am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 23rd. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of 0 occurred back in 1875.
Not a particularly nice weekend on tap. π Saturday, a chance of showers after 8am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 48. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Sunday, rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 52. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Typical average high for the weekend is 50 degrees.
Doesn’t seem like it’s going to be a good weekend to head out of town. β But that’s fine. I had a pretty busy weekend last weekend and while I’m itching for a few nights in the wilderness βΊ the weather is only going to get nicer as spring gets closer.
I am very encouraged about the push by both political parties to get America moving again. πΎ Coronavirus is going to be bad but hopefully the two week plus pause on life will have helped to slow the spread and now we can move forward. π We can use other methods like better cleaning and isolated housing to protect the vulnerable and elderly going forward, including using government resources only available if tax revenues come in.
I was thinking this morning I will need to wash my truck soon after the snow storm but the car wash is probably not opens silly as that seems. π Plus think of all those people out of work or struggling to work from home like myself. The truth is government needs tax revenue π° and the only way to do that is to open up the economy again. I just can’t see this going on too much longer. Public health is important but so is civil society.
As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until 7:30 PM Sunset π when the sun will be setting at 7:28 pm with dusk at 7:57 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 68 and 34 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 55 degrees. We hit a record high of 87 back in 2010.
