Wild & Wonderful Staycations: Seneca Rocks | WBOY.com

SENECA ROCKS, W.Va. – Seneca Rocks is one of the most unique landmarks in West Virginia and it’s one of the best places to visit for an entire weekend.

My friends and I were looking for a place where we could do just unplug and have little to no service for a weekend. Since Seneca Rocks is in the heart of Pendleton County, we figured it would be a great way to see a side of West Virginia we weren’t familiar with.

Splendid isolation: how I stopped time by sitting in a forest for 24 hours | News | The Guardian

It was early summer, and I was on the verge of turning 40. I found myself entertaining a recurring daydream of escaping from time. I would be hustling my son out the door to get him to school, or walking briskly to work on the day of a deadline, or castigating myself for being online when I should have been methodically and efficiently putting words on paper, and I would have this vision of myself as a character in a video game discovering a secret level. This vision was informed by the platform games I loved as a child – Super Mario Bros, Sonic the Hedgehog and so on – in which the character you controlled moved across the screen from left to right through a scrolling landscape, encountering obstacles and adversaries as you progressed to the end of the level. In this daydream, I would see myself pushing against a wall or lowering myself down the yawning mouth of a pipe, and thereby discovering this secret level, this hidden chamber where I could exist for a time outside of time, where the clock was not forever running down to zero.

You can do this with a gun, and have something good to eat when you come home if luck has it.

January 27, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Gotta make that money πŸ’΅ although not a pay week this week but I have great faith I’ll be paid next week. Two weeks to Clean Your Computer Day 🧹. With there being so much hard drive space these days, does anybody really have to clean their computer? πŸ’»

Snow flurries, cloudy, gray, damp and 36 degrees at the Valero just waiting for the bus to take me to work. ❄ Calm wind. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around noontime. β˜ƒοΈ

Catching the later bus 🚍 to work because I never know with this bus and having to punch πŸ‘Š the clock πŸ•’ on time each morning. The truth is with manually filled in time cards you could get away with being a few minutes late and nobody would ever know. πŸ’ I did set my alarm for 6:30 but I reset it a few times. I’m bad I know and I had to iron my shirt πŸ‘š. But I did have a nice pan of eggs 🍳 for breakfast, one of the last of the fresh ones from my parents, as some kind of varmint finished off their chickens πŸ” and they don’t want to have chickens now as they’re planning on spending the summer traveling. 🚒

Today will be scattered snow showers, mixing with rain after 9am, then gradually ending. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a high of 42 degrees at 2pm. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 10th. Light and variable wind becoming west 9 to 14 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 40 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1974. 9.3 inches of snow fell back in 1963.❄

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:09 pm with sun having an altitude of 28.8Β° from the due south horizon (-42Β° vs. 6/21). Gain is accelerating now. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 4:20 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (238Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-southwest (245Β°) starting at 4:59 pm and lasts for 3 minutes and 12 seconds with dusk around 5:31 pm, which is one minute and 17 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent πŸŒ’ Moon in the southwest (229Β°) at an altitude of 22Β° from the horizon, 251,502 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:06 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies ☁ and temperatures around 40 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 14 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 47 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 9 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy πŸŒ₯, with a low of 29 degrees at 6am. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 24th. Northwest wind 8 to 14 mph. In 2019, we had snow in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 8 degrees. The record low of -16 occurred back in 2005.

Another kind of dreary weekend on tap but mild. ☁ Saves on the heating bills. More chance to work on projects and ride the exercise bike 🚲. Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 40. Sunday, a chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 41. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Typical average high for the weekend is 32 degrees.

🌹🌻🌼Only 52 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Clean Your Computer Day 🧹 when the sun will be setting at 5:20 pm with dusk at 5:49 pm. On that day in 2019, we had mostly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 33 and 17 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. We hit a record high of 53 back in 1955.
