University of Iowa research ties pesticides to heart-disease deaths | The Gazette

Findings from the study on pyrethroid exposure were published Monday in the JAMA Internal Medicine journal and reported nationally in publications such as the New York Times.

The UI research suggests individuals with high levels of exposure to pyrethroid insecticides are three times more likely to die of cardiovascular disease than those with low or no exposure.

“You would think, normally, cancer is an important endpoint or the brain is an important endpoint for these kinds of chemicals,” UI occupational and environmental health professor Hans-Joachim Lehmler told The Gazette.

“So I have to admit, from my personal perspective, that looking at cardiovascular disease — that there is actually a link — was quite unexpected.”

And while the research established an association, both Lehmler and Bao cautioned the study hasn’t established individuals died as a direct result of exposure to pyrethroids. Bao said the findings indicate a high likelihood of a link, but follow-up study is needed.

Down To Moscow Hill Camping Area

Rogers Environmental Education Center, like much of Madison and Oneida Counties was a sea of browns and grays, as the lack of snow left the land open and exposesed. The corn residue and manure sat in forefront, waiting dorimently for naothr planting season to occur.

January 3, 2020 8 AM Update

Good morning! Happy Latest Sunrise of the Winter 🌄️! Next Friday is Wolf Moon 🌕. Howl at that. 🐺 Mostly cloudy and 37 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. ☁ There is a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. 🍃. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Sunday around 2 am. β˜ƒοΈ

Not a half bad morning but I’m glad it’s a Friday. With my time off from work and the New Years Eve holiday I’ve been staying up too late lately 😴 and not getting enough sleep at night. I had to kind of hurry out the door this morning 🚪 as I was running 🏃 late but I caught the express bus 🚍 in time. There is a traffic light 🚦 out on the Delmar bypass and they have cops 👮 out there monitoring and directing traffic.

Today will have a slight chance of showers between 10am and 5pm. Cloudy 🌦, with a high of 45 degrees at 3pm. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 17th. South wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Another day of mid March weather. Probably at least in Madison County more mud and manure spreading 💩 as things are still free of snow. So much mud out that way. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became mostly clear by afternoon. The high last year was 43 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 1913. 12 inches of snow fell back in 2003.❄

Today if should make an appointment for the doctor 😷 to figure out what the next step is with the Lyme which I’m still struggling to get over. Or maybe it’s a different condition but it sure feels like what I had after that tick bite. 🎯

Also continuing to research counseling services with my health insurance and also trying to put together a one pager 📄 of things I’d like to discuss. I got interested in this after listening to the Terry Gross interview of Howard Stern and then also the Lifekit podcast. I feel like if I got better at managing my emotions at times I could be a lot better at work, get better promotions and make more money. 💵

At times I feel like I’m getting old 👴 with all the gray hair popping up and I don’t want too many doors to close before deciding on my future. 🔮 It is 2020 now and I really got to start taking better control of my body 🚵before it’s too late. A little over three years from now I’ll be forty. I see so many people doing cool things on YouTube, 📹 living a life that I can only dream of today 💭 and I don’t want to pass up future 🔮 life choices before it’s too late. While I don’t think that the Lyme disease will continue to impact my life in the long run its kind of a wake up call 📞 now that’s its 2020 ⏰ and stiff knees and aches aren’t fun while I’m not that old yet.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:00 pm with sun having an altitude of 24.5Β° from the due south horizon (-46.3Β° vs. 6/21). The sun angle continues to improve steadily this time of year, but it will be a lot more noticeable once it gets into the forties on sunny days. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 3:49 pm with the sun in the southwest (231Β°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-southwest (239Β°) starting at 4:31 pm and lasts for 3 minutes and 23 seconds with dusk around 5:05 pm, which is 53 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 5:42 pm. At sunset, look for clouds with a chance of rain 🌧 and temperatures around 45 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 8 minutes of daytime, an increase of 51 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers before 11pm, then a chance of showers after midnight. Patchy fog after 9pm. Otherwise, cloudy 🌧, with a low of 35 degrees at 6am. 20 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 8th. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2019, we had light snow in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 30 degrees. The record low of -15 occurred back in 1904.

Tomorrow will rain before 4pm, then rain and snow. 🌧 High of 39 degrees at 3pm. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 1st. Light north wind. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became mostly clear by afternoon. The high last year was 43 degrees. The record high of 64 was set in 1950. 8.8 inches of snow fell back in 2003.❄

Tomorrow I’ll probably wash my truck and get groceries. 🏪 I am getting pretty low on food and supplies 🍲. I also need to look at getting some milk 🐮 tonight or tomorrow as I only got a half gallon of milk when I was going out On New Year’s Eve to camp. β›Ί

Looking ahead to Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 33. β›… Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph. Typical average high for the weekend is 31 degrees. That night be the best day of the weekend but still a bit cool with the wind but mild by early January standards.

The plan for Sunday remains the Pine Bush meeting 🌲🌳and maybe some pre-gaming in the form of a hike in the Pine Bush. Then Sunday dinner at folks house. They’re having ham for dinner. 🐽

Honestly I doubt I will be getting back out for an overnight in the wilderness β›Ί for at least a few more weeks. I think it’s going to be mild and rainy the next few weeks – and I have things to do locally and then it will get bitterly cold ❄. We can’t make it through winter without one major outbreak of the cold.

🌹🌻🌼Only 76 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼

Such a count down ⏳reminds us there is hope although it will be done before you know it, with black fly season 🐜 underway thrn summer and autumn. 🍂It keeps coming around and we’re just one step towards the future 🔮 which over before it begins.
