So it’s official that I have Lyme Disease ๐Ÿž

It sounds so scary — and some people who don’t get treated when the disease is either misdiagnosed or goes undetected — it can be scary. But honestly, as we inch closer to 2020, the treatment and recovery for early-detect Lyme Disease is trivial with basic, inexpensive doxycycline antibiotics.

I will be on a dose of doxycycline, twice a day for 21 days — a slightly longer treatment then the default 14-day one, as it’s been about a month since the initial bite, and they don’t want the bacteria, more extensively spread in the body, to mutate before the antibotics have a full chance to kill them off. ๐Ÿ’ŠAntibiotics are pretty amazing products from health science — you take a pill and in a few days you start to feel better and within a couple of weeks it’s like the infection never happened.

Probably the most obnoxious thing is you can’t consume milk or dairy products (e.g. cheese and butter) while taking doxycline and similar antibiotics. Apparently modest amounts of alcohol are permissible but dairy can bind to the antibotics, blocking their uptake. Beer is fine, but not the beverage of the gods – milk. ๐Ÿฎ I guess only around the time you take the drug, so it’s not a complete ban on drinking milk.

The whole process would have been a lot worse, had I not gotten a bullseye rash, and could be in an out of the doctor’s office in an hour and a half. I didn’t need to be tested for Lyme as the rash is symptomatic — along with myself spotting an removing the tick, there is no question that I have Lyme. ๐ŸŽฏ The doctor inspected the bullseye rash, listened to my symptoms and when I got sick, wrote the script and sent me on the way after handing the receptionist my $25 payment.

It probably would have been quicker, had I an appointment with my regular doctor, but he was moving and closed for three weeks, so I ended up visiting the local urgent care center.ย ๐Ÿฅ Not urgent for sure — I waited an hour and fifteen minutes after opening to get in and see the doctor, but it was fine — I had my phone to play with while I waited and watched some Youtube videos.

FBI Records: The Vault โ€” Louie Louie (The Song)

You have to admit the FBI is certainly thorough in its investigations of alleged crimes, as was the case with the "Louie Louie" song. Take a look at their now public 118 page investigation above.
In 1963, a rock group named the Kingsmen recorded the song โ€œLouie, Louie.โ€ The popularity of the song and difficulty in discerning the lyrics led some people to suspect the song was obscene. The FBI was asked to investigate whether or not those involved with the song violated laws against the interstate transportation of obscene material. The limited investigation lasted from February to May 1964 and discovered no evidence of obscenity.

Camp

Snowy, cold but actually not a half bad evening. There was not a lot of wind and it was around the freezing point. Winter camping though is here.

RECYCLE Act proposes $75M for education, with widespread industry support | Waste Dive

The legislation enters an increasingly crowded space of federal recycling policy proposals, but comes with broad consensus among many notable stakeholders.

It's exciting and interesting to see how many difference pieces of legislation are out there and actively being debated on solid waste policy on the national level. It seems like this might be one area that President Trump moves forward on, maybe kicking and screaming, but ultimately signing something, probably not exactly what the advocates want.

Coal Industry Knew Burning Fossil Fuels Causes Climate Change as Early as 1966 | Democracy Now!

Coal Industry Knew Burning Fossil Fuels Causes Climate Change as Early as 1966 | Democracy Now!

Leaders of the coal industry knew as early as the mid-1960s that burning fossil fuels causes climate change. That’s according to a recently discovered 1966 copy of the magazine Mining Congress Journal, in which the head of a now defunct mining research company wrote that the combustion of fossil fuels was increasing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, causing global temperature increases. He continued, writing, “Such changes in temperature will cause melting of the polar icecaps, which, in turn, would result in the inundation of many coastal cities, including New York and London.” The recently discovered article now provides evidence that both the coal and oil industries have known about catastrophic climate change for decades, yet worked to cover up the evidence in order to continue burning fossil fuels.
