Driving an Imperial
I was watching the Regular Cars video about driving a 1970 Chrysler Imperial. I was thinking how much it like it is driving Big Red. Both vehicles are roughly 230 inches long and 80 inches wide. The hood length is fair bit longer on the Imperial though.
November 19, 2019 Morning
Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Three weeks to 7:15 AM Sunrise βοΈ. I guess that time change was good for nothing, we’ve lost all the benefits to the earlier sunrise with impending winter. That said it’s wintery enough this morning although it’s already warmed up enough that the roads are mostly just wet at this point. More slushy earlier and the sidewalks were very sloppy walking down Wolf Road. πΊ
Snow showers, slop and 33 degrees at the Colonie Center. β Calm wind. There is roughly an inch of sloppy, wet snow on the ground. Going to melt today but we have freeze up by morning tomorrow, so be careful tomorrow morning on untreated surfaces like sidewalks. οΈTemperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 7 am. βοΈ
Picked and absolutely marvelous day to my truck inspected and maintenance preformed. π My thought that it would be all just wet on the roads played out by 8 am but the first half of the trip was a bit slick and sloppy. Made it there safely but forgot how aggressive the antilock brakes feel on the driveway. The sidewalks were super yucky on Wolf but I expect they’ll be fine once I pick Big Red up after work.π§
Bus is running a bit late π with the snow and random passengers asking the driver questions, but I’m hoping to make it in on time to clock in timely. π Otherwise I’ll have to stay late or use leave which I haven’t figured out yet how to record in the system. At least Denooyer is open until 8 pm but I don’t want to walk up Wolf Road too late. Cuts into my dinner time.
Today will rain and snow before noon, then a slight chance of rain between noon and 1pm. π§ High of 39 degrees at 2pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 4th. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible but it’s not expected to last. A year ago, we had mist in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 40 degrees. The record high of 71 was set in 1921. 4.2 inches of snow fell back in 1914.β
The sun will set at 4:29 pm with dusk around 5:00 pm, which is 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. π At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies β and temperatures around 39 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 9 hours and 37 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and one second over yesterday.
Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers after midnight. Mostly cloudy π§, with a low of 31 degrees at 1am. Typical for tonight. Northwest wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had light drizzle in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 33 degrees. The record low of 6 occurred back in 1986.
Cool this weekend with temperatures running 6 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. π Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 39. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 40. Typical average high for the weekend is 45 degrees.
Going to be cold and winter like β but I’m still thinking it would be nice to get out of town and go to the Adirondacks to camp. βΊ I’m the other hand, I wouldn’t mind staying home and pushing forward the new blog design which is coming along really nicely. β Still some sections not designed and bugs π to address but I’m very happy with it. Sure I’d rather do a bigger trip over Thanksgiving Weekend but who knows about the weather.
As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until 7:15 AM Sunrise βοΈ when the sun will be setting at 4:21 pm with dusk at 4:53 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny, mist and temperatures between 36 and 18 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 38 degrees. We hit a record high of 64 back in 1966.
