Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! That came quickly. The October Road Trip is rapidly fading into the distance. And look what is ahead. Two weeks to November π₯§. Favorite month of the year. Partly cloudy and 46 degrees in Delmar, NY. β There is a west-northwest breeze at 14 mph. π. The skies will clear around 2 pm.
I wonder what is ahead for the month of November. I am planning some road trip for that month βΊ but nothing like the autumn trip of a few weeks ago. The nights are long but that means more time by the fire π₯ and cooking good things on the camp stove. I might do a long weekend in early November and then another one come closer to or maybe during the Thanksgiving weekend. I always talk about a North Country trip and maybe that will happen this year.
I haven’t been setting my alarm clock β° in a while and this time I overslept with the longer nights and dark and gray skies. πWith the heavy rain and wind the leaves are rapidly fading away. I did make the bus in time π with a bit of rushing that involved crawling in the attic to get out one of my vests as I didn’t have any more long sleeved shirts that I could find around. The vest I’m wearing is over two decades old – it the only one that I have from that era that is decent enough to wear to work. πΌ It’s good I made it as I have a ten o’clock meeting this morning.
Today will be partly sunny π, with a high of 54 degrees at 2pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 30th. Northwest wind 14 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. One of those days nicer to watch from behind the windows in the office. π’ year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 46 degrees. The record high of 84 was set in 2016. There was a dusting of snow in 2015.β
The sun will set at 6:09 pm with dusk around 6:37 pm, which is one minute and 35 seconds earlier than yesterday. π At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies π and temperatures around 50 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 15 mph. Probably too cold to sit out back after work. Today will have 10 hours and 57 minutes of daytime, an decrease of 2 minutes and 46 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will have areas of frost after 4am. Otherwise, partly cloudy π€, with a low of 35 degrees at 6am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 31st. Northwest wind 5 to 11 mph. In 2018, we had clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 29 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1974.
Tomorrow will have areas of frost before 9am. Otherwise, sunny π, with a high of 57 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 22nd. Northwest wind 3 to 6 mph. I’ll take it. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 60 degrees. The record high of 79 was set in 1963. There was a dusting of snow in 1992.β
Looking ahead to Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 59. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon. β Might be a great day to spend on the wilderness. Typical average high for the weekend is 59 degrees.
As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until November π₯§ when the sun will be setting at 5:48 pm with dusk at 6:18 pm. On that day in 2018, we had rain showers, mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 59 and 48 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 54 degrees. We hit a record high of 78 back in 1950.
