Good morning! Happy Ugly Truck Day 🚚! Humid, damp, overcast and around 74 degrees at the Cherry Ridge Camping Area. ⛅ There is a west breeze at 7 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 69 degrees. So far the weather on vacation hasn’t been really inspiring. The skies will clear around 9 pm.

I am actually hoping that the sun comes out earlier ☀ even though it will be hot just because I like nice sunny days and it will recharge the batteries and be nice when I get to the Taughannock Beach this afternoon before heading up to the National Forest tonight. I’ll doubt I’ll get the campsite I like up there tonight but I figure Sunday night it will be available and I’ll probably camp there through Wednesday and then for Thursday night head out west to Allegany County.

In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 64 degrees. The record low of 45 occurred back in 1974.

Replacement burner on the camp stove is working well. 🔥 I do need to stop this morning and get some deodorant and clothes pins, the later I forget to buy on Thursday. I’m going to take US 20 out to Montezuma and get my mom some wine 🍷 and then head south on NY 414 to Trumansburg to swim. 🏊 Air conditioning will feel nice in the truck.

On this day in 1969, Apollo 11’s crew successfully makes the first landing on the Moon in the Sea of Tranquility. 🌕 Americans Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to walk on the Moon, well at least in England. Us Americans would get to watch it the next day due to the time zone difference.

Trying to get through the next two decades as fast as possible?

I often look at the next twenty years as something I should try to blow through as quickly as possible, while saving and investing all I can for retirement and owning land. I often find myself looking at everything folks have and think if only I save and invest towards a better future. Twenty years from now, I’ll be age 56 and assuming I’m on the same course as today I’ll have thirty years in with the state pension system and substantial investments in the market.

If life were only that simple. For one thing, twenty years is a long time. Twenty years ago I was only sixteen, in tenth grade, a very different person than today. While maybe as an adult my life is more consistent I still probably can’t go on doing the same things over and over again. I see a lot of good in my tragetory but that’s no guarantee that it’s forever sustainable as is.

Plus the question becomes do I want to live my life as it currently is for the next twenty years or do I want to take the next step sooner. Maybe loose out on some of the potential gains of time and maintenance for a better tomorrow today. Maybe in my forties is the time to take the leap rather than wait until my mid 50s. I don’t know.
