October 3, 2018 Morning

Good morning! Last Sunset After 7 PM πŸŒ†. Today marks four weeks to Halloween πŸŽƒ. Trick or treat. Cloudy and 54 degrees in North Syracuse. ☁ Calm wind. The dew point is 52 degrees. The skies will clear around 1 pm.

Today will start out rather cloudy and depressing, 😭 then gradually becoming mostly sunny 🌞 , with a high of 64 degrees at 4pm. One degrees below normal. Some sun will be nice, especially with nice autumn weather. it’s been so dark and gray lately.Β πŸ‚ Maximum dew point of 54 at 4pm. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 72 degrees. The record high of 83 was set in 1967. There was a dusting of snow in 1974.❄

The sun will set at 6:41 pm with dusk around 7:09 pm, which is one minute and 46 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly clear skies and 62 and 1/8th degrees.Β Or something like that. The dew point will be 54 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 11 hours and 36 minutes of daytime, an decrease of 2 minutes and 55 seconds over yesterday. The sun ain’t going to shine any more. Winter’s coming.β˜ƒ Maybe that’s an exaggeration but so be it.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ☁, with a low of 56 degrees at 9pm. 12 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 56 at 6am. Calm wind becoming southeast 5 to 7 mph in the evening. Should be a nice evening, even in Trump’s America. In 2017, we had partly cloudy skies. It got down to 46 degrees. The record low of 26 occurred back in 1948.

Friday still looks nice for going down to Labrador Hollow. πŸŒ„I will probably go down for the sunset, leaving work mid-day. If I get down there early enough, I will be able to enjoy the fall foliage before it gets too dark. Should be close to peak color, although this year it seems like Columbus Day is early, and the colors don’t change in the northern suburbs until late. I am sure though by my vacation, there won’t be many colors left on the trees.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until HalloweenΒ πŸŽƒ when the sun will be setting at 5:57 pm with dusk at 6:26 pm. On that day in 2017, we had mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 54 and 40 degrees. A pretty ordinary late October day. Typically, the high temperature is 54 degrees. We hit a record high of 73 back in 1946.

Ahead of Three Mile Island closing, nuclear safety advocates call attention to waste

Ahead of Three Mile Island closing, nuclear safety advocates call attention to waste

"Nuclear safety advocates plan a series of events leading up to the March 29, 2019, commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the Three Mile Island Unit 2 atomic reactor meltdown, starting with a news conference on Tuesday to call attention to the problem of what to do with radioactive waste."

"Nuclear waste isolation is a discussion that can no longer be postponed," said nuclear safety advocate Eric Epstein, chairman of Three Mile Island Alert, at a Capitol news conference on Tuesday."

"Regardless of whether state lawmakers are able to craft a plan to stop the closure of TMI slated for Sept. 20, 2019, Epstein said there are risks associated with the waste generated from this energy source that will be left behind."

"The industry has failed to deal with the riddle of what to do with the nuclear waste," he said. "Three Mile Island generates 30 metric tons of high-level waste a year. It's been operating for over 40 years. Three Mile Island, an island in a river, is not a radioactive waste site."
