Big Coal Put Toxic Coal Ash in Unlined Dirt Ponds—Now a Hurricane Is Heading Directly Toward Them | Democracy Now!

"Flooding from Hurricane Florence could prompt catastrophic waste spills from 24 toxic coal ash containment ponds in North Carolina.

"In the past ten years we've had two major coal ash disasters," notes Frank Holleman of the SELC. "We're sitting here with over 20 disasters waiting to happen.""

September 14, 2018 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Back to Albany well at least for a day. Next Friday the Average High is only 70 πŸŽ‘. Cloudy and 69 degrees in Albany. ☁ Calm wind. The dew point is 65 degrees. Kind of muggy and damp Certainly not a really nice day in the Albany area, it seemed nicer while I driving east from Madison County, until I got into the fog.

It was an early morning and long trip back to Albany,Β made worse by misreading of the bus schedule and missing the earlier bus home. 🚌 But at least I made it home and to work safely. Tonight I will get caught up on my sleep. I needed to get into work relatively early this morning, as there is quite a bit to do today. While I got to bed by 11 last night in the truck, I didn’t sleep well, and I woke up early, as I wanted to get home early, and technically I was supposed to have a (free) permit to camp at Stoney Pond, πŸ•as it’s not yet the off-season which runs from October through April.πŸ‚

Today will be cloudy ☁, with a high of 80 degrees at 3pm. Seven degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 67 at 1pm. Yuck. Southeast wind 3 to 5 mph. A year ago, we had mostly cloudy skies. It was humid. The high last year was 78 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1931. I am getting tired of these cloudy days. I am hoping we have more sun come

The sun will set at 7:06 pm with dusk around 7:34 pm, which is one minute and 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly clear skies and74 degrees. The dew point will be 67 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 31 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have patchy fog after 11pm. Otherwise, partly cloudy 🌁, with a low of 64 degrees at 4am. 12 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 67 at 7pm. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2017, we had mostly cloudy skies. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 64 degrees. The record low of 33 occurred back in 1975.

As previously noted, next Friday is Average High 70 πŸŽ‘ when the sun will be setting at 6:53 pm with dusk at 7:21 pm. On that day in 2017, we had mist, mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 81 and 63 degrees. We hit a record high of 95 back in 1895.

Labor Day Camping at Perkins Clearing

Due to the rather cloudy and wet Labor Day Weekend, I decided to camp at one of the designated sites along Jessup River Road in the Perkins Clearing.

September 14, 2018 6:36 am Update

The rumble of the sportsman’s pick up, the headlights in the distance are a sign that morning is soon to be broken, that I must head east on the US 20 as I must head back to Albany on this rather foggy morning. From a bit east of Nelson, it’s only a hundred miles back to the big city after passing many a hill and many a farm.
