July 16, 2018 Morning
Good morning! Today marks the Last Sunset After 8:30 PM π. Summer is not endless. Even the warming climate can’t make the days longer. Going to another hot and muggy day today. Partly sunny and 74 degrees in Delmar. Calm wind. The dew point is 67 degrees. The muggy weather ends tomorrow around 11 pm. π The second half of the week should be quiet nice.
Today will have isolated showers and thunderstorms after noon. Mostly sunny and hot π, with a high of 93 degrees at 3pm. 10 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 71 at 6pm. Heat index values as high as 99. Not one hundred. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly cloudy skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1900.
The sun will set at 8:30 pm with dusk around 9:03 pm, which is 42 seconds earlier than yesterday. π At sunset, look out for thunderstorms βΒ and 87 degrees. The dew point will be 71 degrees. The heat index around sunset will be 80. β± There will be a south breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 57 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 34 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 5am. Mostly cloudy β, with a low of 73 degrees at 5am. 11 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 71 at 6pm. South wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2017, we had mostly cloudy skies with some clearing in the early hours of the next day. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 63 degrees. The record low of 45 occurred back in 1974.
In 1956, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus closes its very last “Big Tent” show in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, due to changing economics all subsequent circus shows will be held in arenas.ππ Now the only thing in tents is fireworks dealers and car dealers when their show rooms are being renovated.
Today is expected to be quite hot but cooler later in the week. βΊAs of now it looks decent for the weekend.Β Might have to watch for thunderstorms on Sunday, but not Saturday.Β But I should be on my way home by then.Β I may head up to Piseco-Powley Road then on Saturday head over to Stewart Landing and Lily Lake especially as I’m thinking the lilies may be out. Certainly the splatter dock will be out. The following week is the start of my vacation out in the Finger Lakes. Looking forward to being out there in the Finger Lakes, swimming and hiking the gorges. After a crazy few weeks at work, that will be a much needed vacation.
How fast summer is going.Β Only nine and a half weeks until autumn. πI remember when it was still hundred days to Labor Day like it was yesterday. Summer always go by so quickly. When I return from vacation it will seem like summer is all but over especially if I end up going out in the field the second half of August. I’ll bring my fishing pole and gun though do even if I have to work I can get out in the field occasionally.π£
Still chewing over getting a hammock.π€Β Might be a nice way to camp or even just spend a lazy afternoon, especially during vacation in the Finger Lakes. I don’t know, it’s just more stuff. But it could lead to a lot of good adventures, especially if I put it in the kayak and paddled into a back country site.
Headlights and air filter are replaced in the truck. π‘While I didn’t buy the extra bright bulbs with the added mercury to make them whiter (why pay an extra $10 to further blind drivers on the road?), they are much brighter than the old ones which had loss a lot of their output over the past seven years. I think I’m glad that I replaced both of bulbs at the same time. That air filter was so dirty, I am glad that I got around to replacing it. I’ve been replacing it in advance of the schedule in the book but I guess I drive on a lot of dirt roads. Fifty bucks gone, but I guess it needed to be done, and it was a lot cheaper then paying somebody else to do it.
Looking ahead, there are 7 weeks until Labor Day π¨βπ when the sun will be setting at 7:25 pm with dusk at 7:54 pm. On that day in 2017, we had rain, drizzle, heavy fog, shallow fog, patches of fog, mist, cloudy skies and temperatures between 58 and 51 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 77 degrees. We hit a record high of 100 back in 1953.
