I listen to the news less and less these days. πŸ“°

I’m just kind of disinterested on what they are reporting as most of the stories don’t really apply to my life. While once an interested consumer who would listen to WAMC several hours a day, it’s not uncommon for me to only turn the radio on πŸ“» to catch the weather β˜” then head down to breakfast.

I guess the news effects me but most of it distant places that have little relevance to my life. πŸ—Ύ I’m sure it’s terrible that some kids somewhere are trapped in a cave or that the president is nominating yet another judge to the Supreme Court but I struggle to understand the relevance my own life.

It just seems like more and more news is about selling laundry soap and pushing a political agenda, πŸ“’ rather than something that makes all that much of a difference to my own life.

California increased electricity imports and natural gas generation during solar eclipse – Today in Energy – U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA)

"During the solar eclipse that passed across the continental United States on August 21, 2017, solar output on the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) electric system dropped while the sun was partially obscured. Much of the decrease in solar output was made up by increased electricity imports and increased generation from thermal units, most of which is fueled by natural gas."

"Although California was not in the path of totality during the eclipse, meaning the sun was not completely obscured, California contains 43% of the national total for utility-scale solar and 40% of small-scale solar, (as of May 2017). Much of the state’s solar capacity is located in areas where sunlight was obscured by as much as 60%–70% during the eclipse."

"Based on an average of the previous five weekdays, CAISO’s solar power output typically increases to about 9.1 gigawatts (GW) between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Pacific Time, or to roughly 31% of total load. On August 21, as the moon partially obscured sunlight, CAISO’s solar power output fell to a low of 3.6 GW for that hour, about 60% lower than normal."

Moonlight on Cedar River Flow

July 11, 2018 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? I have no idea. Sorry. Three weeks to August 🌻. Mostly cloudy and 69 degrees in Albany. ☁There is a north-northwest breeze at 7 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 60 degrees. Going to get less humid later.

Today will have a slight chance of showers before 11am. Sunny 🌞 , with a high of 81 degrees at 3pm. Typical for today. Maximum dew point of 60 at 8am. North wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly cloudy skies with some clearing in the afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 84 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1936.

The sun will set at 8:33 pm with dusk around 9:07 pm, which is 31 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for mostly clear skies and 72 degrees. The dew point will be 51 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 7 mph. Going to be a nice evening. Today will have 15 hours and 4 minutes of daytime, an decrease of one minute and 17 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 58 degrees at 5am. Six degrees below normal. Maximum dew point of 53 at 6pm. North wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm after midnight. Nice sleeping weather. In 2017, we had mostly clear skies with more clouds in the early hours of the next day. It was sticky. It got down to 68 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1978.

On this day in 1962, live television was transmitted for the first time across the Atlantic Ocean. 📡 Telstar! The future seen in black and white. Seems odd nowadays, when so much commerence is global and we can access a server next door as quickly as in France. That said, most of those connections nowadays are done using fiber optics cable.

I am thinking about staying in town this weekend, as I doubt I’ll have a chance to replace the headlight on my truck until the weekend, :idea:and the forecast continues to slide downhill. Cloudy and stormy on Saturday although Sunday will be sunny and hot. I guess I could go to Schoharie County after fixing the headlight but after a crazy week I think I’d rather stay home. Maybe the following week I would go back to Piseco Powley Road and paddle Lily Lake.🚣 🌼

I am thinking about buying a hammock to use camping. 💤I think it would be fun to tie between two trees either as a lightweight way to camp in the back country or a lazy afternoon st a campsite. Might be fun during summer vacation. At this point, summer vacation is only two and a half weeks away especially if I leave from work.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until August 🌻 when the sun will be setting at 8:15 pm with dusk at 8:46 pm. It will however be later when I’m in the Finger Lakes that week. On that day in 2017, we had mostly sunny skies and temperatures between 87 and 62 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 82 degrees. We hit a record high of 101 back in 1933.
