Cuomo lays groundwork for legalizing marijuana

"Gov. Andrew Cuomo laid the groundwork Thursday for legalizing marijuana in New York, saying neighboring states already have, or are about to, so β€œfor all intents and purposes it is going to be here anyway. You have states that have legalized it now…. It is no longer a question of legal or illegal. It’s legal in Massachusetts. It may be legal in New Jersey. Which means for all intents and purposes it’s going to be here anyway.”

April 13, 2018 Evening

Happy Weekend! Partly clear and 61 degrees in Delmar, NY. β›… There is a east breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 47 degrees. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Sunday around midnight. β˜ƒοΈ

I think I will have a quick dinner then grab a book and head down to the park.🔰📖 Enough light now in the evening and warm enough to enjoy the park.🌲 Definitely a nice evening. Walking down to the old train station from work was pleasant and the bus was right about on time. 🚌 There is some delays due to a lane closure and crash on the old 787 expressway but the driver navigated right through it. Some kid put the roof of his car through the corner of a semi truck hauling rebar. I’m glad that I don’t ever have to drive during rush hour. Well except when I’m heading up to camp.

The sun will set at 7:35 pm with dusk around 8:04 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies β›… and 61 degrees. The dew point will be 46 degrees. There will be a north-northeast breeze at 5 mph. Maybe after I get home from the park I’ll have a drink or two on the tailgate of my truck 🍺but not too much as I have to work tomorrow.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ☁, with a low of 45 degrees at 6am. Four degrees above normal. North wind around 6 mph. In 2017, we had mostly cloudy skies. It got down to 33 degrees. The record low of 19 occurred back in 1973.

Tonight will have a Waning Crescent Moon 🌘 with 4% illuminated. The moon will rise at 5:53 am. The New Moon will be tomorrow with a chance of showers. The Pink Moon 🌝 is on Saturday, April 28th. The sun will rise at 6:15 am with the first light at 5:46 am, which is one minute and 38 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 10 hours and 38 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of rain, mainly after 8am.💦 Mostly cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 35 by 5pm. North wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly cloudy skies. The high last year was 64 degrees. The record high of 83 was set in 1968. 1.4 inches of snow fell back in 1950.❄

Looking ahead to Sunday, freezing rain before 11am, then rain likely. High near 34. East wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Typical average high for the weekend is 58 degrees.

Renewed my fishing license today. Every time I visit the DEC world headquarters they have a different procedure for getting to the license bureau desk🎣Sometimes they make you sign on at front desk sometimes not. I think it’s stupid to make you sign up because the license bureau window is right up front. At least I can walk there from work and while the DEC is slow as all shit to sell you a license, they always have the computer up and running, 🔖have enough tape to print the license, and there is never a line.

I got my unclaimed funds deposited into my account today. 💰As I was noting the other day it’s great that can now get your unclaimed funds without a notary, and just filling out the application online. Of course I’ll pay back all that money and then some when I pay my state taxes next week. πŸ˜•

This weekend I plan to build my second clock / VMS module for my apartment. I’m going to include the memory chip so that I have even more space for storimg random phrases and strings on it. 💻I decided on a simpler data structure which should make it easier to program too. Hope to have it up and running by the end of the weekend.

In four weeks on May 11 the sun will be setting at 8:07 pm,🌄 which is 31 minutes and 26 seconds later then today. In 2017 on that day, we had mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 66 and 43 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 68 and 46 degrees. The record high of 90 degrees was set back in 1911.

Looking ahead, Arbor Day 🌳 is in 2 weeks, 8 PM Sunset 🌇 is in 3 weeks, Mothers Day 👩‍ is a month away, Memorial Day Weekend Starts 🏕️ is in 6 weeks, Average High is 80 🏖 is in 10 weeks and Buy Nothing Day 🛍️ is in 32 weeks.

🇺🇸🦅Only six weeks remain until the start of Memorial Day Weekend!🦅🇺🇸

Your Organic Food Is Treated With Pesticides, Too

"Organic farmers may use pesticides, so long as they choose from a list of approved options. The USDA organic program does not disallow all pesticides, just β€œsynthetic” ones. (By the way, the term β€œpesticides” includes both bug sprays and weed killers.)"

"So what remains on our vegetables? The USDA periodically tests produce for pesticide residues; this is the Pesticide Data Program. (The EWG repurposes this data to create their Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen lists.) But the USDA does not test for the presence of organic-allowed pesticides. So the EWG is reporting the stuff on conventional crops without considering what’s present on organic crops."

"So, will you lower your pesticide exposure by switching to organic? We don’t know, but the answer may very well be no. Even looking at the synthetic, non-organic pesticides in the USDA’s tests, conventional crops don’t always have the lowest amounts. Take strawberries, for example, the β€œdirtiest” item on the 2018 list: 75 percent of organic strawberries, and 76 percent of conventional strawberries, had pesticide levels that were under 5 percent of the allowable levels. "
