Good morning! Today starts the Memorial Day Weekend. Just finishing up pack and eating breakfast. Two weeks to Strawberry Moon. More rain and 53 degrees in Delmar. There is a north-northwest breeze at 5 mph. The dew point is 50 degrees. The rain will will stop around noontime with more sun come Saturday. I’m sure I have a lot of water sloshing around in the kayak. It will dump out, what doesn’t evaporate over the next few days.
Today will have showers, mainly before 4pm. High of 61 degrees at 1pm. Ten degrees below normal. Maximum dew point of 53 at 1pm. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly cloudy skies and a high of 88 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 2010. There was a dusting of snow in 1953.
The sun will set at 8:22 pm with dusk around 8:55 pm, which is 53 seconds later than yesterday. At sunset, look for cloudy conditions and 58 degrees. The dew point will be 51 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 14 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 59 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 32 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will be scattered showers, mainly before 9pm. Cloudy, with a low of 53 degrees at 2am. One degree above normal. Maximum dew point of 51 at 6pm. Northwest wind 6 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2016, it got down to 71 degrees with thunderstorm and rain and mostly sunny skies. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1969.
As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Strawberry Moon when the sun will be setting at 8:32 pm with dusk at 9:07 pm. On that day in 2016, we had partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 65 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 76 degrees. We hit a record high of 100 back in 1933. Back when the station was located downtown.
My gear is all packed up and ready to go. I have a lot of gear but with the cold and rain, I wanted to make sure I had tarps and the heater to stay warm. I’m not really going that far so if the weather turns bad, I’ll head home. That said the latest forecasts show improving weather.
Black flies can be bad during Memorial Day Weekend so I packed three different types of bug spray and lots of Citronella. I bought some of that new Picaridin bug spray. I also have 20% DEET and 40% DEET, the later which tends to give me tingling lips. I have a minor allergy to DEET but it works well against black flies. I’ve Picaridin is very effective too without all the nasty side effects or nasty residue.
Watched last night the Steve Bannon special on PBS Newshour. Interesting man, even if I disagree with many of Trumpβs policies. He’s such a fascinating political actor. I’m just very fascinated by the current administration even though I wish the election had resolved it’s self in a different fashion.
Thinking about getting a selfie stick so I can make better videos at camp. I looked last night and they are quite inexpensive. I’m going to swing by Walmart and Staples on the way to work and if can find one that will fit my camera for under $30, I’ll buy it. I want to do more videos featuring me talking about some of my thoughts on the day.
Well, I better get going. I got to get through this work day so I can get up to camp relatively early to get a good site. I’m sure it will be a nice weekend.
