"Whatβs the difference between a national park, national forest and national monument? What about national wildlife refuges, national historic sites or national conservation areas?"
We are now eight weeks out from the start of summer — the longest day of the year. The warmest days of the year don’t happen until mid-July on average, so that’s about 12 weeks out. And in 16 weeks, we will be back into County Fair Season and the somewhat earlier evenings of August, as we start to head back towards winter. But don’t worry, that’s a long ways off.
It was definitely a rather wet morning walking down to the bus shelter. 54 degrees and fairly heavy rain with enough of a wind to push some of it under the umbrella. Normans Kill is fairly full but not a torrent. Maybe 67 degrees later with continued rain. I’d rather have the rain on a Wednesday when I have to work then on the weekend.
The sun will set at 7:50 pm with dusk around 8:21 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. Today will have 13 hours and 55 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 34 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a low of 53 degrees at 6am. 12 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 53 at 6pm. Light east wind. In 2016, it got down to 34 degrees with periods of fog. The record low of 26 occurred back in 1963.
I was looking at the calendar and it looks like I’m three weekends from now it will be the weekend before Memorial Day Weekend. The weekend before Memorial Day Weekend, I’m thinking about going to Pumpkin Hollow to camp and fish in the Sacandaga River. I’m thinking about Vermont for Memorial Day Weekend. The previous two weekends I have things going on so I have to stay in town.
That leaves this weekend. I’m undecided where I will go if I decide to get out of town. Maybe Schoharie County? Brookfield is a possibility but that’s a long trip and I’d rather reserve that trip for June when I’m likely to be transacting work business and need cellphone service. A lot depends on the weather. I’ve also considered going up to part of Piseco Powley Road that isn’t gated as it might be interesting to see it off season.
As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Pack Rat Day when the sun will be setting at 8:13 pm with dusk at 8:46 pm. On that day in 2016, we had mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 66 and 40 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 89 back in 1977.
Last night I went to the laundromat and did my wash. I ended up staying there the whole time I washing because they have free WiFi, and I didn’t feel like rushing to the store between loads. Thursday evening I will instead go to the store and buy camp supplies, especially if I decide to head up to the wilderness for the weekend. I Β will see.
"China is piloting the use of vending machines that sell HIV testing kits on university campuses. The goal is to reach students who may be reluctant to go to a clinic for a test because of the stigma of contracting HIV."
Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. Three weeks to Pack Rat Day. Rain and damp, 48 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north breeze at 7 mph. The skies will clear tomorrow around noontime.
Today will have patchy drizzle with a chance of showers before 2pm, then a slight chance of showers after 2pm. Cloudy, with a high of 61 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees below normal. Maximum dew point of 53 at 5pm. North wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had rain and a high of 47 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1990. 0.3 inches of snow fell back in 1993.
