October 11, 2016 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday.Β Back to work after the long weekend. Sunny and 47 degrees in Liverpool. Calm wind. A nice morning, I went out for a nice walk along Onondaga Lake for a while. Cool morning, but the lake was pretty with the fog rising up of the skies. Also finished doing my wash and got it folded and put away. Finally caught up on my wash, at least for a while. A lot of traffic this morning in Liverpool though. Later in week, though I will probably head back to Green Lakes.

Three weeks left in October, andΒ four weeks until Election Day.Β But the pundits are as busy as usual talking about election day. Still fifty days until we have a recorded temperature below zero, so that’s a ways off. That happened on November 30th, many years ago. All week will be sunny and 5-10 degrees above normal in the day time, but Thursday will be somewhat rainy and cloudy — but still mild.Β Looking forward to my mid-November road trip.

Today marks my 9thΒ anniversaryΒ at my job since college.Β I started the day after Columbus Day Weekend.Β I guess time goes by really quickly, and there aren’t many people who stay with the same company for so long. Over the years, I’ve traveled to every upstate city and many downstate and in the city. But it really seems like yesterday. Probably stay at least one more year, or maybe another twenty. Eventually though I hope to move on to other opportunities in other states. The weekend before I started my new job I went up camping at Terry Mountain State Forest outside of Plattsburgh. That was a nice weekend camping, although I think one of the days was the first day of bow hunting season, and was awoken by bow hunters getting out in the woods at daybreak.

Today will be sunny, with a high of 64 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 39 at 4pm. Light southeast wind. The record high of 86 was set in 1949. The sun will set at 6:27 pm with dusk around 6:55 pm, which is 1 minutes and 41 seconds earlier than yesterday. Today will have 11 hours and 11 minutes of daylight, a decrease of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a low of 47 degrees at 6am. Four degrees above normal. Southeast wind 3 to 5 mph. The record low of 22 occurred back in 1964.

There are 2 weeks until World Pasta Day when the sun will be setting at 6:05 pm with dusk at 6:34 pm. The average high temperature is 56 degrees, with a record high of 77 in 1963.

October 10, 2016 Night

Good evening! As our Columbus Day Weekend raps up the mercury is quickly dropping. Clear and 39 degrees in North Syracuse. Calm wind. Cold night ahead.

I thought it was a nice Columbus Weekend but it went by much too quickly. Next big holiday is Election Day and Veterans Day which falls on a Friday this year. But then again, I will probably just take that week off. I have a lot of time to take off during hunting season and before the end of the year.

Jones Hill was pretty today but I sure was disappointed it wasn’t peak color. I might head back come the weekend. We will see. I also want to explore Jamesville Reservation before the colors are gone and more of Green Lakes State Park but the later is only a short drive from where I am staying.

The next few nights will be really clear and cold. Lots of stars but also with our first real frost of the year.

Tonight will have patchy frost after 4am. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low of 34 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees below normal. Calm wind. The record low of 22 occurred back in 1943. Waxing Gibbous Moon tonight with 65% illuminated. The moon will set around 4:18 am. The Full β€œHunter” Moon is on Saturday night  with partly cloudy skies expected and a chance of showers.

Tomorrow will have patchy frost before 9am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high of 65 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 39 at 6pm. Light southeast wind. The record high of 86 was set in 1949. The sun will rise at 7:13 am with the first light at 6:45 am, which is 1 minutes and 11 seconds later then yesterday.

Looking ahead, Halloween is in 3 weeks and Beaver Moon is in 5 weeks.
