Good afternoon! Heavy rain and 44 degrees in North Syracuse. There is a west-northwest breeze at 13 mph. Not exactly a good afternoon for doing anything outside. Pretty darn dreary. Today is the first day of deer season in the Northern Zone of New York. The snow expected in the Northern Adirondacks should be highly beneficial for the hunters up north there. Just remember, cotton is rotten in this cold wet weather.

Jumped a six or maybe eight inch granite curb by accident with my truck. But with those 35 inch tires, I don’t think I did do any damage or even scuff up the tires much. With one of those micro-cars that the little kids drive, I would have done so much damage. Oh well, I got learn to be more careful when I drive my big boat. It was before I had my first cup of coffee this morning. I have been pretty careful for the most part, except for that curb.

This afternoon will rain even more, on top of the record breaking rain we’ve had in Syracuse. We had a month worth of rain,  High of 46 degrees at 3pm. 11 degrees below normal. West wind 13 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Last year this afternoon, we had rain and a high around 66. Not a nice day back then, but at least it was warmer. The record high of 86 was set in 1979. There was a dusting of snow today back in 2005.

In the past three days, North Syracuse has received between 3.5 and 4 inches of rain. It’s been very wet. But we’ve had such an extensive drought over the summer, flooding has been very limited although certainly the combined sewers’ diversion dams are allowing only screened and chlorinated sewage to flow directly into Onondaga Lake. The pictures of Taughannock Falls show them raging, as they’ve gotten a similar amount of rain. No blasts of rain throughout the storm but a good soaking rain through the past few days. The drought should be coming to an end but too late for the farmers for sure.

Breezy, with a west wind 17 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Last year we had mostly sunny skies and a high around 51. The record high of 81 was set in 1947.

The dew point is 51 degrees. We have two more days of rain ahead of us, with at least 2 1/2 inches expected to fall on top of the 1 1/2 inches of rain we got last night. Very wet and cool next few days for sure. At least we won’t be getting the snow they are expected to get in the Adirondacks. And it will get nicer come Sunday, with skies clearing around 7 am but very cold and blustery.

On this day in 1967, nearly 100,000 people gather to protest the American war effort in Vietnam. More than 50,000 of the protesters marched to the Pentagon to ask for an end to the conflict. The protest was the most dramatic sign of waning U.S. support for President Lyndon Johnson’s war in Vietnam. Polls taken in the summer of 1967 revealed that, for the first time, American support for the war had fallen below 50 percent.
