October 23, 2016 Night

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 47 degrees in Bethlehem, NY. There is a west breeze at 11 mph with gusts up to 21 mph. The skies will clear tomorrow around 7 am.

Back in Albany tonight because my laptop power supply appears to have failed, so I had to come home and get the old laptop. Both my smartphone and laptop are essential for work, not to mention my blog. Hopefully it will hold me over until I can either fix my “newer” laptop or replace it. The whole situation sucks because I was going to back up my files but it hasn’t happened recently. I did not expect a three going on four year old laptop to die without warning. I thought it was a dead battery but it looks like the internal power supply is bad based on the three different chargers I tried to use with no indication of power getting to the machine.

I will use my old laptop for now, but I really need to upgrade it with the latest software as its still running Ubuntu 12.10. Not a big deal to update and as long as it keeps plugging along I’ll be good for a while. I also dug out my voltage meter and will see if there is anything obvious I can fix or suggestions from the Internet on fixing my laptop. If it’s permanently dead, I’ll get an inexpensive SATA enclosure for the hard drive  in my broken laptop with a USB cable and plug my old hard drive into my new laptop. I’m not going to replace it though for a bit. I need to do the brakes on my truck first before they start to wear down the rotators or even worse fail. I want my truck to be working good before my November trip with those big hills in West Virginia or the Southern Tier and hunting season. I need to be better at backing up my data too.

Coming back to Albany for the night had its advantages. I get to sleep in my own bed. I got to see my aunt who was in Albany for the first time in a decade or more. It was nice meeting her and Sunday dinner with the family was nice. Long haul from Syracuse back to Albany though, although I’ve certainly made that trip many times before.
