October 19, 2016 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 51 degrees in North Syracuse. Calm wind. The dew point is 49 degrees. Not really cool but fairly damp with the rain expected over the next few days.

Sort of half watched the debate. While I voted for Jill Stein, I’ve grown quite comfortable with Hillary Clinton as the likely next president. Trump is just getting killed so badly. The Republicans really made a bad choice with their choice. It will be interesting to see how badly they loose come election day.

As a low information voter, I’ve never really paid all that much attention to nation politics. I’ve always been more interested in state politics, but even them I don’t follow that carefully. I occasionally read the State of Politics blog, but mostly I get my news from social media and WAMC / NPR in morning. Been watching the PBS Newshour more, but I still don’t think I’m that well informed about the happenings in government.

I’m happy I got my truck inspected today. I checked the oil today and it’s in the normal range at 3/4 mark in the normal trange. I do need to think about getting the brake pads replaced and tires rotated, preferably before my November trip. Might go back to Mavis in Cicero to have that done. We’ll see. Might be easier to just get it done before I risk damaging the rotators.

I think I double paid my car insurance bill. I overpaid the first time then when I got the revised bill I thought I canceled it but it looks like the money was sent. I’m hoping the insurance company will deny the transaction. It’s kind of a pain but some how the auto pay didn’t cancel.

While watching the debate, I made up some more maps of Western NY forests. Should be caught up on map of the day for a while.

October 19, 2016 Afternoon

Good afternoon! Mostly cloudy and 60 degrees in North Syracuse. There is a west breeze at 8 mph. The dew point is 55 degrees. Already some sun now, with more clearing around 2 pm. Sunny and seasonable this afternoon with heavy rain coming in on Thursday and Friday. Possibly as much as 3-4 inches, which will end the drought but may lead to flooding, especially downtown with leaves plugging up the sewers.

This afternoon will be mostly cloudy early, then gradual clearing, with a high of 62 degrees at 4pm.Β Not a half bad afternoon. Three degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 55 at 12pm. Northwest wind around 8 mph. The record high of 79 was set in 1963. The sun will set at 6:13 pm with dusk around 6:42 pm, which is 1 minutes and 35 seconds earlier than yesterday. Today will have 10 hours and 49 minutes of daylight, a decrease of 2 minutes and 49 seconds over yesterday.

I got my truck inspected this morning.Β It passed inspection but they suggested I get the brakes serviced soon, as my pads are wearing down.Β I’m at 58,000 miles, so I’m due for new pads. I may be closer to 60k, as I my odometer isn’t quite correct due to the bigger tires. I may get that done next week some time, just so I have fresh pads on the brakes prior to going on my November road trip. I’m not down the warning clicker, but the shop says I’m on the last 1/4 inch of pad. I could wait, but I don’t want to wear out the rotors and have to replace them. It’s just drop the truck off and have them do it. And maybe have them rotate the tires. Seemed like a decent shop and they probably would have good prices as their a big chain place.

We will see. I still want to have money to buy a deer riffle at some point this fall, but if I need to I can take it out of savings. Keep looking in the circulars. Been looking at the Savage Axis AP, and been kicking myself for not getting the Remington 783 30-06 that was so inexpensive.

Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low of 46 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees above normal. Calm wind. The record low of 18 occurred back in 1972. The rain comes in on Thursday,Β mainly after 11am.
