I have a meeting in Cazenovia tomorrow morning at 9 AM, so tonight I’m leaving after dinner to head out to Brookfield to camp overnight at Cherry Ridge at Charles Baker State Forest. No campfire and just camping minimally as I want to be relatively clean. Just sitting back with candles, looking at the full moon with a good book. The upside is I’ll not have have to get up early and I get to spend a nice evening in the wilderness. It’s kind of like a jump start on vacation. Although I do have to be at a meeting in the morning and I have to work for the rest of the week.

0.2 inch of rain expected between Friday 8am and Saturday 7am. Within the next four days, a total of 0.2 inches of rain is expected. We have some muggy weather coming up starting Thursday evening and going through the weekend. Thursday 8pm – Thursday 9pm. Maximum temperature will be 82 degrees, a heat index reaching 84, and a maximum dew point of 65. Friday 7am – Monday 12pm. Maximum temperature will be 91 degrees, a heat index reaching 94, and a maximum dew point of 68. Monday 5pm – Monday 9pm. Maximum temperature will be 88 degrees, a heat index reaching 90, and a maximum dew point of 65.

Definitely going to be a hot one to start out my vacation. The air conditioning works good in my truck and I plan to spend a lot of time swimming, so I can’t complain. Hopefully the hot weather will last Β into next week and we won’t have too many thunderstorms.

On this day, there was the Great New York City Fire of 1845: The last great fire to affect Manhattan began early in the morning and was subdued that afternoon. The fire killed 4 firefighters, 26 civilians, and destroyed 345 buildings. Always be careful with matches, in densely packed urban areas with lots of wooden buildings.

There are 4 weeks until Altamont Fair Opens when the sun will be setting at 7:54 pm with dusk at 8:24 pm. The average high temperature is 81 degrees, with a record high of 97 in 1936.
