The Monday Update
Good Morning! Happy Monday. The new week comes around again on the calender. It was a nice weekend up at Moose River Plains, however the weekend was much too short. Going up to Moose Plains for only two nights, is almost too quick to spend much time enjoying it. Not only that, I had to head to Inlet on Saturday, to check my phone, as I wasnβt sure what was going to happen with work stuff over the weekend. Hopefully within the next week or two, things will start to quiet down a bit at work.
Β As the body shop hasnβt had a chance to work on my truck, it doesnβt look like I will be getting my truck back for another two weeks. I hope that means two work-weeks, and that after this weekend I will have it back. I am fine driving the Toyota Tacoma loaner truck I have, but honestly I miss having Big Red. I much prefer camping under the truck cap, especially with the lights. I canβt really read with the camp lantern, and itβs a pain, because every so-often you have to pump it up, as especially as the fuel gets lower in the lanternβs tank. With the lantern, you also want to be back before dark, as because starting it up, is a bit more complicated then plugging in a power cord and flipping a switch.
Moose Plains was fun, but I wish I had my kayak to get out onto some of the lakes to do some fishing. I did shore fish Helldiver Pond a couple of times, but all I caught were these stupid little bullheads, that simply werenβt worth my time, or the PIA they are to get off the hook. Hiked Black Bear Mountain, which was a nice, but it wasnβt as clear as the low humidity would suggest it would be. Evenings where a bit chilly, one night it dropped down to 46 degrees. Also Shore Fished Cedar River Flow by the dam, and didnβt have much luck either.
Both nights I camped at Site 67, aka the Bear Pond Trailhead campsite. Tried to follow the Bear Pond Trail back to Bear Pond, but after about a Β½ mile the trail faded out to high grass and the flagged markers seems to disappear. Probably easier to follow during hunting season, then mid-summer with the grass being so high.
Going to call Capital Region Truck Center sometime this week or next week to see about ordering parts for the lift-kit for my truck. I realize after the delay getting my truck fixed at the body shop, there is no guarantees that if I order the lift kit parts, that they can get them installed next week. Its a good idea to call ahead, and find out when they have time in the shop, so I donβt stuck in a situation with worn out tires, an inspection due, and out of town for work. Not having the truck for a 5 weeks in the summer, is saving a lot of miles on it, so I guess thatβs a good thing.
Rethinking a Spurned Landmark
50 years ago, many people thought Pennsylvania Station wasn't worth saving. The major railroads were bankrupt, the station build for an earlier era, taking up valuable space in a urban downtown. But soon after they lost it, they realized how unique and beautiful the building was. People see the run-down Orange County Office Building, and do not see the potential, should it be brought up to modern standards.
