February 16, 2019 10 PM Update

Good evening! Mostly clear and 22 degrees in Delmar. There is a northwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 2.5 inches of rather icy snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at Thursday around 10 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

I ended up staying home for most of the day, working on a very unsuccessful mapping project and watching some videos I previously downloaded.๐Ÿšถ Then I went for a walk down to the rail trail around dusk and got home around 6:30. For all the upgrades they’ve done for pedestrians in time, street lighting could use some better aiming in parts. On the rail trail it was really icy, I was surprised, I slipped a bit and didn’t think much about it but now my ankle is sore. ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ I took some Tylenol, I’m sure I’ll be better by morning.

Made dinner read a bit, played on my phone, uploaded some pictures and now I’m in bed. Dinner was some pork roast which had frozen like a brick so I had no idea what the lump was until it thawed out in the oven. ๐Ÿฒ Stuffing was a bit dry but despite all the freezer burn the pork roast was still juicy and good. It was literally a massive block of ice when I put it in the oven, I was surprised how good it was when I pulled it out out. Not sure how old it was.

I thought about going out camping but I decided against that. With the wind that howled around for most of the day and just the snow on the ground and all the effort to haul all the gear back in the woods, especially with nicer weather expected come a few more weeks.โ›บ We certainly could have some 50 degrees days come March and I might not have to deal with snow. I much prefer to use the camper on my truck and be warm enough not to need the heater. I did plenty of winter camping in December, so I’m not all that thrilled about heading out at this point. Plus money is always tight and I’m always trying to save a bit more for tomorrow and keep miles off my truck.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 14 degrees at 5am. Four degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical night around January 27th. Maximum wind chill around 5 at 5am; Northwest wind around 8 mph. Not terribly cold but not warm either. I was feeling a bit chilled through this evening, so I did turn the heat up a few degrees but still its pretty low. Looking forward to a time the heat is off until October or maybe even April. Only a few more weeks most likely as warm days in the 40s and 50s with solar radiation should keep things warm enough for me. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 23 degrees. The record low of -16 occurred back in 1973.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ” with 96% illuminated. The moon will set at 5:23 am. Almost full, tomorrow is the snow moon. The sun will rise at 6:49 am with the first light at 6:20 am, which is one minute and 25 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 13 hours and 19 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 44 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 32 degrees at 2pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around February 5th. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming northeast in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny. The high last year was 36 degrees. The record high of 60 was set in 1981. 11.9 inches of snow fell back in 2003.โ„

Tomorrow I’m heading out to the folks house for Sunday dinner and some grocery shopping. ๐Ÿ‚I could do some skiing but with recent conditions I’m not sure that conditions would be very good. It’s remarkably icy around here after Friday’s heavy rain and now it’s only going to get colder over the next two days. Presidents Day I’m going to take a bus over to John Wolcott’s house to continue helping him sort his historic papers. My expectation for both Martin Luther King and Presidents Day is pretty low being mid winter. I’m looking forward to nicer spring weather.

I apologize if my posts lately have been too political but I like to share articles with you of interest and my thoughts about the days events. ๐ŸŽŽ My views are not purely liberal or conservative, I listen to the facts and are often very skeptical about the government. I’m a Democrat but I’m not blindly hooked to either party. I try to do a mix of content.

In four weeks on March 16 the sun will be setting at 7:03 pm (Daylight Savings Time),๐ŸŒ„ which is one hour, 34 minutes and 17 seconds later then tonight. That will be nice. In 2018 on that day, we had mostly sunny skies, snow showers and temperatures between 32 and 25 degrees. That wasn’t so nice. Typically, you have temperatures between 44 and 26 degrees. By then, hopefully winter will be petering out. The record high of 82 degrees was set back in 1990.

Looking ahead, Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ is in 10 weeks, 8 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 11 weeks, Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ is in 3 months, June ๐Ÿน is in 15 weeks, Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is in 4 months, Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– is in 18 weeks, Hottest Time of the Year ๐Ÿ˜… is in 21 weeks, Last Sunset After 8:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 5 months and Average High Falls To 79 ๏ธDegrees โ›ฑ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ is in 27 weeks.

February 16, 2019 10 PM Update

Today’s average high is 35 degrees, which represents a steady increase in warmth as slowly but surely we leave winter behind. In about two weeks is March 4th and then even a bit warmer as we head towards April. The snow and the cold won’t last forever.

Trump Can Win If Democrats Lurch Left

Trump Can Win If Democrats Lurch Left

The democrats blew it big time in 1972 against the embattled Richard Nixon and I could see that happening again in 2020. Nixon was facing Watergate but that didn't stop him from winning nearly every state - McGovern ran a devastatingly bad campaign. I think Trumps festish over the wall is stupid but I could see the democrats blowing it big time in 2020, especially if the party becomes too far to the left.
