Too much snow βοΈ
Not down here but up in the Adirondacks for heading back to the campsites I was thinking about doing along the East Branch Sacandaga River. For a while I didn’t think this weekend was going to happen, then the snowfall estimates went down and now they are back up again. So I think I’ll be sticking close to home this weekend.
I was all about heading north since Wednesday afternoon when the snow fall forecast trended downward, and they were just talking about a few inches of snow along the East Branch. The story was going to be a go up there on Friday, drive into one of the roadside sites — probably my favorite No 5 with the tall pines above that old homesite that sits above NY 8. But I think there is too much snow after yesterday’s snow storm up north to drive back to campsite, so if I were to go north, I’d be hot tenting it. Which is fine, but I don’t know. It’s not what I want to do, plus my skis broke two years, ago, snapped in half, and I ended up chopping them up and burning them last December up in the woods. I was surprised how much fiberglass was left over after I burnt them.
I also considered going up to Rensselearville State Forest for a night or two, but that would require digging out the campsite and lot of tramping through snow. If I only went for a night or two, I wouldn’t have to get fuel and I’d have enough propane. But it’s still rifle season, and I wanted to wait until that was over. Plus the snow is deep, and I haven’t got skis. I was going to skis last year, but it never happened as I spent much of February and March looking at land, potential home sites and properties for sale. And talking to mortage bankers, if I wanted to buy with a mortage rather then selling a bunch of stock and buying with cash. After a lot of frustration at the crap options available (there are a million of houses in the ghetto and city for cheap!), I ended up just spending my summer smoking pot and burning shit up in the woods. Like my usual good ol boy self.
I decided to stay home, enjoy some red lentil soup with carrots and onions and garlic today. It will steam the heck out of my apartment, though I’ll try to cut the heat so they don’t make so much steam and take down the smoke detector. Figure have a nice lunch, and then go for a ride. It’s sunny but cool this morning with a bit of a breeze. Neighbor was out bright and early shoveling more, improving on my shoveling job. He in his own words is a bit OCD but I like me last night, I’m sure he just wanted to burn off some of the energy after the turkey and gravy.
I have to decide today what to do with my certificate of deposit which expires today. They are still offering a 4.1% interest rate, but I also want to put more of money in the markets, especially get more bonds. I also don’t want to lock up the rest of money, as I think I need to consider replacing Big Red next year. π» I’m not totally sure bonds are great investment — rates of return are at or below interest as bond funds often have a lot of old bonds still in them — and value of bond funds has declined as interest rates go up. But it’s also a good hedge against stock market loses. I really don’t know what the best option is.
