Sleep and fresh bread was more important watching the election results π³
Got to bed a little after nine after my bread was rising in the oven. Up a bit before five to get baking, beans cooking on the stove, butternut squash cleaned and baking.
Good morning! Mostly clear at the freezing point π in Delmar, NY for the morning walk. There is a northwest breeze at 13 mph. π with gusts up to 24 mph π¨π¨π¨. I’m out walking this morning and it’s a cold one. I’m out and going though with my morning walk, but it’s cold. πΆβοΈ Going to ride to work today, π² but by five o’clock it will be dark and I’ll be busing it back home.
Lost one of my gloves 𧀠when I was out riding on Monday, so it might make for a bit of cool ride into work, but I figure I best do it today as tomorrow isn’t going to be nice enough to ride to work. I am stumbling around this morning though, running late, it’s going to be closer to 10 AM when I get into the office. π¨πΌ Probably almost would have been just better to take the local bus in this morning, but so be it. Part of it was I was studying local election results and news π°, trying to see what happened last night. Not that it makes much of a difference in my life, but I always find it interesting to see what’s happening politically.
Today will be mostly sunny π, with a high of 43 degrees at 2pm. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 30th. Northwest wind 7 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with sunny skies in the afternoon. The high last year was 53 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 1975. 1.7 inches of snow fell back in 1894.β A few years before my time.
The bread I ended up making came out very salty, π§π as I decided to put extra salt on the top. I might try to scrape it off, but if that doesn’t work out, I’ll let the bread dry out and use it in a soup as breadcrumbs with less salt in it. I am out of flour now, I will need to get more before I start doing anymore bread. Last week’s bread came out so good, I am disappointed I messed this one up but I was kind of sleepy as I made the bread up, having just come back from those three nights camping out Madison County.
Solar noon π is at 11:40 am with sun having an altitude of 30.9° from the due south horizon (-40° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 10 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour π starts at 4:00 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (241°). πΈ The sunset is in the west-southwest (248°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:42 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 8 seconds with dusk around 5:10 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds earlier than yesterday. π The best time to look at the stars is after 5:45 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies π and temperatures around 41 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 5 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 23 seconds over yesterday.
This morning is cold βοΈ but this evening looks even worse. But hopefully late enough that it won’t impact my plans to get out walking πΆβοΈ this evening after dinner, then read for a while π and get to bed early π as I’m quite tired. It’s been a fun few weeks but it’s been so busy with vacation then taking the other weekend out to Madison County. π€ Plus much like yesterday, β sipping coffee just seemed like a more important activity then getting to work on time, lol. π€£ It’s going to probably be a fairly quiet day in the office, as I didn’t see a lot of backgrounds or cap grants go through when I was on vacation on Monday.
Tonight will rain, snow, and sleet likely before 3am, then rain likely, possibly mixed with sleet. π¨ Cloudy, with a low of 32 degrees at 11pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 13th. Calm wind becoming southeast around 6 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2022, we had clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 27 degrees. The record low of 11 occurred back in 1971.
Yesterday, drove back to Albany from Madison County. π Stopped at Altamont Orchards and got apples π and grapes π. The grapes weren’t as good as the concord grapes I got last week at Annuto’s but far better then what I would get at a grocery store. Went out and visited the family on Sunday evening. πͺ Then got clothes unpacked and started kneading the bread π and then headed off to bed, a bit after 9 PM as I didn’t get home too early and had a fair bit to unpack.
Cool but sunny weekend ahead, bar Veterans Day. π Friday, Veterans Day Observed, mostly cloudy, with a high near 50. West wind 7 to 11 mph. Saturday, Veterans Day, sunny, with a high near 46. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 43. Typical average high for the weekend is 51 degrees. Not a half bad weekend, kind of wish I had held off until this weekend but so be it. Sunday was nice last weekend in Madison County. I am considering going out to Vermont next weekend, but I’ll see how the weather looks as we get closer. Might be kind of cold.
Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Saint Nicholas Day π when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:53 pm. On that day in 2022, we had rain showers, partly cloudy, mild and temperatures between 54 and 39 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 41 degrees. We hit a record high of 68 back in 2001.
