September 11, 2019 Morning
Good morning! Today we remember the September 11th attacks. πΊπΈΒ Next Wednesday is 7 PM Sunset π. Cloudy, humid and 70 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. β There is a south-southeast breeze at 8 mph. π. The dew point is 64 degrees. The skies will clear around 1 pm.
A gray morning for sure, much different than that morning some eighteen years ago. π Time goes by so quickly, two decades really isn’t a long time when you think about it. I just remember the blue skies, and the low humidity, perfect September weather that day. I remember the ugly orange walls in the classroom during my freshman year at college, and seeing the towers fall on television.πΊ Classes were canceled, I went up to Partridge Run WMA and went for a walk, as the skies were silent without planes flying above. β
Today will have a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after noon. Partly sunny π¦, with a high of 86 degrees at 4pm. 12 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 66 at 11am. South wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had light drizzle in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. It became humid as the day progressed. The high last year was 70 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1931.
The sun will set at 7:13 pm with dusk around 7:41 pm, which is one minute and 45 seconds earlier than yesterday. π At sunset, look for partly clear skies π and temperatures around 79 degrees. The dew point will be 67 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 42 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 48 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will have isolated showers and thunderstorms between 11pm and midnight, then isolated showers after midnight. Partly cloudy π§, with a low of 63 degrees at 5am. 10 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 67 at 7pm. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light drizzle by the early hours of the morning. It was humid. It got down to 66 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1875.
New York was fun yesterday, but I’m glad to be back upstate today. ποΈ New York is as gritty as ever, lots of traffic and construction. I am glad I didn’t have to drive down there. New Jersey was the usual mess of suburban strip malls and speeding traffic on NJ 17.π
I’ve been reading a lot about delta and wye three phase power. π It’s interesting to study power poles and see if they are carrying delta or wye or single phase power — as is common in rural areas like where my parents live. Power infrastructure is often very visible from the highway so you can study the wiring if you look at it.β‘ Electricity generation and distribution is often a story of compromise and choosing the best of option of many bad options.
Saturday doesn’t look that great, but Sunday will be warm, summer like with modest humidity. π Saturday, a chance of showers before 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 76. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 64 at 2pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 79. Maximum dew point of 59 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 73 degrees. Maybe I will go hiking on Sunday, I am undecided on that fact still.
As previously noted, next Wednesday is 7 PM Sunset π when the sun will be setting at 7:00 pm with dusk at 7:28 pm. On that day in 2018, we had rain and temperatures between 84 and 68 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 71 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1891.
