Good evening! Cold, cloudy, windy around 20 degrees at the One Commerce Plaza but feels much colder waiting for the bus. ❄ There is a west-northwest breeze at 14 mph. 🍃. The current wind chill is 7. There are 4 inches of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️Things will start to thaw out at Sunday around 11 am. 🌡️

The Pine Bush Dinner 🌲 was good but I started feeling so exhausted and achy by the end of it. 😴 Maybe it just was the thought of waiting outside for the bus in the cold around 9 pm. So I left early. It’s not like I haven’t heard the same old music 🎶 acts before, after 15 years or more of involvement the holiday parties all start to seem alike. Cavagahan’s granddaughter is a very talented folk singer. 🎸 I sure hope that the Lyme isn’t coming back, making me sick – I feel so awful by the end of the evening. 🐜 Only have a day or two of the doxycycline left and then if I sicker after the holidays I’ll have to visit my doctor 😷 again.

Once I get home I’ll probably take my doxycycline 💊 and I will probably retire to bed. I’m hoping after some sleep I’ll be feeling better. I left the heat turned up before I left for work so I expect it should be comfortable and warm when I get home. 🏡 I’m glad the doxycycline is almost done, as it’s a pain to remember even if it no longer makes me feel sick in the morning.

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers before 1am. Partly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 5 degrees at 6am. 15 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around -10 at 6am; Northwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 16 degrees. The record low of -13 occurred back in 1973.

Tonight will have a Waning Crescent Moon 🌘 with 39% illuminated with the moon rising at 11:40 pm. The moon will rise at 12:00 am. The New Moon is next Wednesday. The is on Wednesday night. The sun will rise at 7:20 am with the first light at 6:47 am, which is 39 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 57 minutes of darkness, an increase of 15 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 18 degrees at 2pm. 17 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around -10 at 6am; Northwest wind 11 to 14 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 54 was set in 1895. 7.8 inches of snow fell back in 2008.❄

A bitterly cold ❄ day tomorrow. Not sure if I’m going to walk down to the express bus 🚍 or take the local in. I really do like the walk but not if that wind is really biting like tonight.

I ordered an USB 18650 battery 🔋 charger on Amazon today and are going to pick up an extra pair of batteries to use with my LED lantern 🏮 mom and dad are getting me for Christmas. I probably eventually will also get an 18650 based LED flashlight though my existing ones work fine and truth is I could use ordinary NiMH rechargable batteries in my existing flashlights too.

I am looking forward to my camping trip in two weeks β›Ί but I wonder how muddy it will be. It might be above freezing in the day time which might mean not a lot of snow but a lot of mud. I’m still thinking about the Finger Lakes National Forest but if it looks like I’ll only be able to camp for three nights due to the weather I might stay somewhere closer to home.

I do need to test my propane camp lantern 🏮 that I cleaned this weekend. I’m thinking it will work well now but I haven’t hooked up mantles or tried it out. I’m trying to figure out what I can hang it from to test it out back, not sure if I have a good place near my apartment to string a rope. I’ve thought about getting one of those lantern posts that people use but I’ve heard their unstable especially when the tank is near empty and often break or bend when dropped.

I have to reorder my contact lens 👀 online. My prescription is probably expired, actually it is but I know they don’t actually stop you from buying it online. I would have ordered them last summer when I had a valid script but I knew worse comes to worse my insurance now partially pays for yearly exams for contacts. That said, I hate going to my eye doctor, they’re jerks, always trying to upsell you and charge you for extras. 👓 I’m sure they work on a commission and low profit margins but the local place I usually go to is the absolute worse. I’ve been to other eye places but both of them have subsequently closed.

I often think some of the zero waste β™» stuff is kind of silly but I guess it’s probably good behavior if you live in a city and are an urbanite. I’d rather focus on plainly consuming less, dumping the occasional apple core in with the gut pile or manure pile 💩 on my land, burn the majority of whatever I buy that is packaged 🔥 and recycle the cans and glass as a last resort. β™» I want to use wood for heat and a minimal solar system for small electrical loads and a few lights but nothing big and fancy. I guess I’m not into saving the earth 🌎 but doing what is right for myself and my land. I want to see wild land remain wild 🐺 and not turned into luxury parks for the ulta wealth. I don’t see much difference in what the zero waste folks are proposing and overall waste generation 🚮 – they’re not willing to attack consumerism, take out food 🍲 or waste more generally in our lives. As it stands right now, I buy a lot in bulk and a lot of frozen fruit and vegetables do my actual food waste is minuscule and most of the plastic wrappers probably get burnt or something like that. 🔥

Good evening! Snow flurries and 28 degrees in Delmar, NY. ❄ Calm wind. There are 3 inches of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ We ended up with a couple of inches of sloppy wet snow but not a big deal. ️But what isn’t plowed or salted will last with a big freeze coming. Things will start to thaw out at Sunday around 11 am. 🌡️

It was a very quiet day at work today, 💼and kind of a snowy commute in but the ride back home wasn’t bad but walking 🚶 down Columbia Street was a bit slick at times. But so be it. I got home, made dinner and then I hooked up the voltage switch I got from China and figured how it works. 🔌 I want to get it fully programmed and all the wires cut and ready to go before I am working outside actually connecting things up in the cold over the weekend.

I rode the excerise bike for a while 🚲 but then my neighbor came home so I stopped. I wish I could have gotten more time in on the bike and tomorrow is the Pine Bush Dinner. 🍲 I’ll walk down to the express bus 🚍 tomorrow and who knows Thursday. My neighbor usually is out Thursday night. Although John Wolcott wants me to come over, but I will see. 🔎It’s going to be super cold and I’m not crazy about walking down the Henry Johnson Viaduct when the windchill is below zero.

The high last year was 30 degrees. The record high of 60 was set in 1921. 17 inches of snow fell back in 1887.❄

I am probably not going to head up north for the weekend. 🗻 It would be kind of fun to get up to the Adirondacks one more time before the end of the decade but I am pretty sure next weekend I’m going out to the Finger Lakes – its actually going to be quite mild to end out the year based on the latest predictions. I want to get that voltage switch ⚑ fully up and running and tested before I get stranded because I did something wrong. Also I think we might cut some additional video 📹 for the Rezsin Adams film on Saturday. That was off but it’s back on now.

In four weeks on January 14 the sun will be setting at 4:45 pm,🌄 which is 22 minutes and 14 seconds later then tonight. It got down to 30 degrees. The record low of -8 occurred back in 1942.

It should be a pretty morning when the sun β˜€ comes up with lots of snow around. ❄ Might also be good for the Save the Pine Bush Ski trip 🎿 on Saturday. I’ve yet to decide about going up north on Saturday night, depends on how sunny it will be and how deep the snow is. I wouldn’t mind a nice night in the wilderness but it looks like it’s going to be pretty cold. β›Ί

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon 🌖 with 61% illuminated. The moon will set at 11:38 am. The Last Quarter Moon will be tomorrow with a chance of snow showers. The is on Wednesday night. It sucks thst I had to stay a little bit late last night at work to make up my late arrival, but so far that’s the first time I’ve been late to my new job.⌚ Its definitely a different experience being an hourly employee rather than a salary worker but at least most days I get to go home at five. It ultimately dudnt matter much because I gad a Save the Pine Bush meeting to go to.

Tomorrow will snow. 🌨 High of 30 degrees at 12pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical North wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became light drizzle by afternoon. The high last year was 41 degrees. The record high of 59 was set in 1984. 11.1 inches of snow fell back in 1970.❄

I won some really nice things at the Pine Bush raffle last night. 🌲I don’t know how I managed to win so many things, granted the few things I really liked I tossed a bunch of tickets 🎫 and apparently I was drawn a few times. I should also donate a bunch to Save the Pine Bush – I did kick in a bit at the event but I was originally planning on spending more. Well I’ll have more money to spend at the dinner 💵 and maybe I should mail βœ‰ in a check or do the Go Fund Me page. I still don’t know how I managed to win so much stuff. Honest, I didn’t bribe the judge I wasn’t there when things were called. I was in bed by then. 🎄Well at least I’ll have some nice Christmas gifts 📦.

I got the voltage sensitive I ordered from China today. 🔌 I am going to test it and built the wire harness necessary to operate it starting tomorrow night after work and maybe have it hooked up by the weekend. My hope is by the weekend to have it up and running so I never have to worry about having a weak start if I’m parked out in the sun β˜€.

I have to admit lately i find I really miss spending time out in the wilderness and in the country. β›Ί🐸🐷🐺🐮 I do hope that I get out to the Finger Lakes in a few weeks. I think its alk thr YouTube I estch lstely of those Idaho qnd Alaska off grid farm types – and all the other farm families that I watch that gets me craving the wilder side of life.😻The smell of the wood smoke and the dirt and manure. The sound of the axe and the diesel tractor. 🚜 Its so far away from Albany and the buses🚍and the suit and tie.👔

At any rate, Thursday is going to be a cold one after the snow ❄ falls. I think I’ll probably have to turn back up the heat. ♨It is what it is and honestly with the heat turned up its more comfortable in my bedroom.

In four weeks on January 13 the sun will be setting at 4:44 pm,🌄 which is 21 minutes and 25 seconds later then tonight. December 15, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 29 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🎑 Breezy, ️17 mph breeze from the west-northwest 🌬 with gusts up to 28 mph 💨💨💨. The current wind chill is 17. There are 1.5 inches of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around noontime. 🌡️

For a while this evening it was pretty bitterly cold with the wind. 🍃 It seems like the wind has died down a bit. I went to the Save the Pine Bush Benefit, 🦋 had a Butterfly Lager that was well not the greatest lager ever 🍺 for $7 but Save the Pine Bush got $2 plus I put in the cover charge and I bought a bunch of raffle tickets. 🎫

Very packed event when I left at 9 pm as I have to work tomorrow, didn’t want to drink more than one beer 🍻 and then have to drive home on those narrow city streets. 🚨 Drunk driving laws are so strict these days, and the rare times when I go to the bar, I usually take the bus home 🚍 but not many run on Sunday.

Parking 🅿 wasn’t bad down there, as I parked down a block from the bar and walked 🚶 up there, and with some careful route planning 🌐I managed to avoid all of the red light camera. 🚦 It’s not that hard to avoid them if you take the side streets and plan appropriately to avoid those intersections.

Music 🎶 was kind of loud and not my style 🎸 with all the old folks pulling their hearing aids. 👵I was quite happy to leave and protect my ears 👂 as I do enough damage listening to the moldy oldies and country western with my headphones 🎧jacked up to loud. But the hipsters and others there really digged the act and hopefully will bring a lot of funds in for the battle against developing the Pine Bush.🦋

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers before midnight. I was worried 😯 about the roads as it started to snow around five but they were fine. Black ice in parking lots but with the wind they were dry. Partly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 22 degrees at 6am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 14th. Maximum wind chill around 16 at 12am; West wind 12 to 17 mph decreasing to 6 to 11 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of -11 occurred back in 1917.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon 🌖 with 72% illuminated. I always find those waning gibbous moons to look a bit creepy, like part of the moon is missing. The moon will set at 11:02 am. The Last Quarter Moon is on Tuesday night with partly cloudy skies. The is on Wednesday night. The sun will rise at 7:18 am with the first light at 6:46 am, which is 44 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 56 minutes of darkness, an increase of 29 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 33 degrees at 1pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 23rd. West wind around 5 mph becoming light and variable in the afternoon. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 36 degrees. The record high of 55 was set in 1971. 9.5 inches of snow fell back in 1981.❄

I decided to park on the driveway as I don’t think we are going to get enough snow for the landlord to plow ❄ but if he does he can plow around my truck. It’s possible we get a few inches on Tuesday but I don’t see it being a big snow event locally but it could cause delays on the commute.

I got grocery shopping so I should be good for the week. 🏪 I also have a half tank of gas in the truck β›½ so I should be good for now but I’ll need more fuel if I decide to go to the Adirondacks after the Save the Pine Bush Hike on Saturday. We aren’t going to do the Reszin Adams filming 📹 on Saturday so I’ll have the afternoon free if the weather is nice enough for a night on the East Branch. Depends on how cold, icy and snowy it is up north. ❄ Otherwise I’ll just wait another weekend for my trip to the Finger Lakes National Forest. β›Ί I’m hoping that long weekend is nice and relatively snow free.

In four weeks on January 12 the sun will be setting at 4:43 pm,🌄 which is 20 minutes and 33 seconds later then tonight. December 14, 2019 Night

Good evening! Cloudy, damp and 42 degrees in Delmar, NY. β˜” There is a south-southwest breeze at 9 mph. 🍃. A break from the rain for now. The mild temperatures and rain are doing a job on the snow. There are 2.5 inches of snow left on the ground. β˜ƒ ️Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 4 pm. β˜ƒοΈ

It was a nice Christmas decorating party at my parents house. 🎄 My niece is growing old fast but aren’t we all? Lots of good food 🍲. I got home early and put away my wash 👚 and did some cleaning in the bathroom 🛁. Then I rode the excerise bike 🚲 for 45 minutes ⏳quiting mostly because it was 8:20 pm and I was a bit concerned that the rumble would bother m neighbor as it was getting late. 😴 Took two sleeping pills – which according to the label is the recommended dose – I normally take one but hopefully I’ll sleep well tonight. 💊Only have a week left on the doxycycline and I’ll be glad when I no longer have to take that medication. I hate how sometimes in the morning it makes me feel like I am going to puke.

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain before 11pm. Cloudy 🌧, with a low of 35 degrees at 5am. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 3rd. Tomorrow will have a slight chance of rain showers before 2pm, then a slight chance of rain and snow showers between 2pm and 4pm, then a slight chance of snow showers after 4pm. Partly sunny 🌦, with a high of 41 degrees at 10am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 3rd. Breezy, with a west wind 18 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 46 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 48 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 2015. 8.2 inches of snow fell back in 1968.❄

I want to get an early start tomorrow and get to the store 🏬 and buy groceries for the week and return beer cans β™». I also need fuel β›½ for Big Red. I’m hoping that maybe if I go early I’ll avoid the crowds 👫👬👭👪 and then if it’s nice in the afternoon go for a walk as I’m not convinced they’ll be a lot of snow later. Then probably go to the Save the Pine Bush benefit night at the Low Beat. It sucks that’s its on a Sunday in the middle of the city when no busses are running but so be it. I guess I could park downtown and then take the 1 up Central 🚍.

I was originally was thinking about going camping β›Ί next weekend after the Pine Bush Hike🌲in the Adirondacks but I agreed to help Cynthia Pooler of Focus on Albany fame with the documentary she is putting together on community activist Reszin Adams. Ms. Adams as the Times Union once put it is the Alpha Activist of Albany. Probably nobody outside of Theresa Cook has done as much progressive advocacy. It’s such a privilege to be asked to help out. 📹

After looking at rechargeable lanterns 🏮 I decided to ask mom about getting me one of the Lightning Ever rechargable lanterns for Christmas. My mom has several of the non rechargable ones in her house for power outages and they’re really nice and quite inexpensive. 🔋 The big selling point for me is the lanterns use 18650 cells so I’m going to buy extra cells and a stand alone charger to always keep them in my truck fully charged. This way I won’t have to worry about a dead battery and the lantern not working at camp. Those lanterns are small and efficient enough to use for backpacking or hot tenting at night like I plan to do in two weeks.

Still haven’t gotten the voltage switch from China. 🔌 I thought it would have arrived during the week as it said it cleared customs 🛃. I have everything ready to wire it up once I get it, test it and build the wiring harness instead so I’m not messing around outside in the cold ❄. I’ll have to work on wiring it up next weekend.

Wind and Rain Shelter I put up this weekend

December 13, 2019 Night

Good evening! If you can read this 📖 you will you’ve survived Friday the 13th, last one of the decade. Heavy rain and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. β˜” Really can hear it in the roof. 🏡 Calm wind. There are 3 inches of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️Temperatures will drop below freezing at Sunday around 5 pm. β˜ƒοΈ Mild weather is good for the heating bills. 💵 And the snow melting away quickly.

Today was the holiday party at work 🎄 and it was fun to see some of the old colleagues there. I got to go home early which was nice too although by the time I got home it was raining β˜” but my neighbor wasn’t home so I could ride the exercise bike 🚲 and burn off some calories. That was a pretty wild run from the bus station 🚉 under the Plaza to my office 🏢 a mild away but at least I was able to clock in on time. 🕒

Tonight will rain. 🌧 Low of 37 degrees, warming up into the forties later. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 3rd. Light and variable wind becoming north around 6 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of -5 occurred back in 1898.

I’m glad we are getting some mild weather. ♨It was kind of cold earlier in the month and my heating and electric bill was $83 but to be fair I did have the heat turned up a bit higher than I have in the past. I doubt this month will be much higher but it depends how cold it gets. The $50 a month bills are going away for a while but I’m not burning much gas being that I’m not planning much road trips over the winter. β›½ My budget is always so tight with my desire to save and invest for a better tomorrow. 💸

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon 🌖 with 89% illuminated. The moon will set at 9:31 am. The Last Quarter Moon is on Tuesday night with mostly cloudy skies. The sun will rise at 7:16 am with the first light at 6:44 am, which is 47 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 55 minutes of darkness, an increase of 38 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will rain. 🌧 High of 44 degrees at 1pm. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 21st. North wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning, which became cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 1901. 12.5 inches of snow fell back in 1956.❄

In four weeks on January 10 the sun will be setting at 4:41 pm,🌄 which is 18 minutes and 46 seconds later then tonight. The record high of 55 degrees was set back in 2016

So yeah, Christmas will come and go 🎄 and the harshest weather of the year will be upon us. But so be it. I’m hoping for mild weather for my end of the decade camping trip into the New Year. If it works out 🎉should be a great way to ring 🔔 in the New Year.

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 24 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌃 There is a south breeze at 6 mph. 🍃. There are 3 inches of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 9 am. 🌡️

I am tired so I’m retiring to bed early tonight. 😴 I woke up early this morning and couldn’t sleep. Bit achy too but that’s normal when I’m tired. But interestingly enough I wasn’t tired at work or had headaches – maybe that’s a sign that the doxycycline is working 💊 and Lyme is basically gone.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a low of 23 degrees at 9pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 11th. Maximum wind chill around 17 at 9pm; South wind 6 to 10 mph. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 18 degrees. The record low of -6 occurred back in 1988.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon 🌖 with 95% illuminated. The moon will set at 8:34 am. The Last Quarter Moon is on Tuesday night with mostly cloudy skies. The is on Wednesday night. The sun will rise at 7:15 am with the first light at 6:44 am, which is 49 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 54 minutes of darkness, an increase of 41 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers, mainly after 2pm. Cloudy 🌦, with a high of 39 degrees at 2pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 7th. South wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 32 degrees. The record high of 58 was set in 1984. 14 inches of snow fell back in 1915.❄

I rode the exercise bike 🚲 for over an hour this evening , baked brownies 🎂 for the Christmas Party 🎄 tomorrow at work and had fish for dinner. 🐠 Kind of a cold evening plus I got watching the YouTube videos I downloaded 📼 so I decided to stay home 🏡. Today is one of the nights when my neighbor works night shift so it’s perfect for me to ride the bike when he’s not home so I’m not bothering him. Also did some cleaning up in the kitchen as it was getting a little bit dirty.

Maybe tomorrow I should go to the library 📚 and come up with some new content for the blog. But lately I’ve been running 🏃 low on ideas . I could make up more maps but I’m running low on New York lands and it’s kind of a lot of work to set up other states with their unique data on QGIS. It also is getting hard to come up with ideas for new things to graph 📊 after a while.

In four weeks on January 9 the sun will be setting at 4:40 pm,🌄 which is 17 minutes and 50 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had rain and temperatures between 40 and 32 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 30 and 15 degrees. The record high of 62 degrees was set back in 2008.

Looking ahead, Static Electric Shock Day 🧼 is in 4 weeks, National Cheese Lovers Day 🧀 is in 6 weeks, 5:30 PM Sunset 🌆 is in 10 weeks, Easter 🐰 is in 4 months and Flower Moon 🌕 is in 21 weeks.
